This is going to be another one of those "Did you know..." columns, otherwise known as "random-facts-I-picked-up- from-random-sources" and even better known as "nobody-is-writing-to- me-why-why-why." I received a hard copy of an e-mail sent to our class webmaster, EdMacri, from Ryan McMillen back in March sometime. Ryan writes that he is living in Texas with fiancee Isabelle Beilman '96. "We are to be married next year sometime somewhere," writes Ryan. Ryan is in graduate school in American studies at the University of Texas, and Isabelle is planning on finishing up her undergrad degree in biology and then eventually is heading on to graduate school "somewhere sometime somehow." Now, as for the rest of Ryan's news, just remember that you don't have to believe everything you read. Keeping that little disclaimer in mind, did you know that, according to Ryan, Jordan Stern is running a sheep farm in New Zealand with some money he won in the Rhode Island lottery? Yes, and Chris Stone is apparently running a numbers racket out of his law school dorm room, and "hopes to buy a sixpack of Schaefer with the proceeds." David Cowin is supposedly "seeking donations for a new liver; he lost one of his patients' and hopes to replace it before his boss gets back from lunch." And finally, if you're still buying all of this, "Thatcher Wine and Ed Han are opening a hot dog stand outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Early estimates of profit run into six figures. "Do you see what happens when you don't write to me? I am forced to print gross exaggerations of your lives that your friends submit without your consent. Okay, now here's something true and cool that I picked up from the Valley News. Did you know that CraigCreelman and Ryan Fitz Simons '96 are making their mark on college campuses all across the nation with their Hanover-based company, The College Kit? Their product a multicolored 64-ounce stadium cup filled with goodies such as a wipe-off message board, gum, pens, and trial size deodorants, shaving creams and colognes is distributed as a welcome package to incoming college students, and has attracted the attention of advertising analysts, major corporations, and officials at more than 150 colleges and universities nationwide. Last year 175,000 students at 51 campuses received their product. During this coming year, they are planning to distribute the goods to 500,000 students at 150 campuses nationwide. As if college wasn't easy enough, now you get a kit with everything in it before you even know you need it! But many congrats on your success, Craig and Ryan! We'll be looking for our "Welcome to Your Thirties" kit sometime around the ten-year reunion. Did you know that Gretchen Ulion was selected to the U.S. women's national ice hockey team? As a member of the U.S. National Team, she competed in the 1997 women's World Ice Hockey Championship, an eight-team tournament which was held in Kitchener, Ontario, back in March. Though I cannot tell you who won the tournament, I can tell you for a fact that Gretchen is the most prolific scorer in Dartmouth women's hockey history, and that should be all you really need to know to be proud of Gretchen, anyway. So belated congratulations, Gretchen! Well, I'm 50 words shy of my allotted word count for this article, and though I am tempted to type the word "Write" 50 times, I will refrain and type it only once more. Write. To me. Please. Thank you in advance and take care of yourselves.
