So the groundhog saw his shadow and we have six more weeks of cold winter blues; well it is not too late to cheer up ourselves by committing to our 35th Reunion Monday, June 9, to Thursday, June 12, 1997 (as of mid-November column deadline, Kent Hutchinson reported almost 200 of our '62 family plan to attend with many yet to respond). The class knows that we do not grow older but improve with age just like Jay Fritz's fine wine and each reunion gets better by a geometric factor! Join your old roomie, frat brother/teammate in making '62's 35th Dartmouth's best. And while you're committing, pledge big $$$ for our Reunion Alumni Fund so ably chaired by Ben Vogel with help from dedicated '62s who know how Dartmouth depends on reunion class gifts.

Received a warm and responsive e-mail from Manuel Buchwald , who reports he is still climbing mountains. This past April he became director of the Research Institute at the Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto, where he commenced his working days in 1970. Manuel stated that "I will be one of the few persons I know who will have had one place of employment for his whole life." Manuel's research has concentrated on understanding human genetic disorders. He has been involved in the discovery of several new genes; the cystic fibrosis gene in 1989, for which he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada; the Fanconi Anemia Group C in 1992; and the Fanconi Anemia Group A in 1996. Manuel and wife Cheryl are now enjoying a well-deserved four-month sabbatical in Paris.

McGraw-Hill recently announced the appointment of Jeffrey Sund as president of its higher education group. Jeff will focus on building global sales and the integration of the recently acquired Times Mirror higher education group. Jeff has had an outstanding track record in the field of educational publishing after his navy tour, including stints at Prentice Hall, Houghton Mifflin (editorial director), and Richard D. Irwin (president, CEO). Jeffs new position will be based in Burridge, Ill., I hope close to Chicago, where he resides with wife Carole.

Alan Roy Dynner has joined as vice president and chief legal officer Eaton Vance Corp., the large Boston-based mutual fund. Alan joins Eaton Vance after many years with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, where he was founding partner of the firm's Washington, D.C., office. Over the years Alan has specialized in security and general corporate law for U.S. and international clients. He brings to his new position extensive experience in all aspects of mutual funds in both the domestic and international arena. Alan has formed offshore funds and counseled on investment management issues offshore. Congratulations and best wishes to Alan on his new position.

And best wishes to Eric and JudithMatthies upon their retirement from the practice of law in Florida and fulltime move back to San Francisco.

Keep the news coming.
