Enthusiasm for reunion is growing to fever pitch. I'm getting regular updates on who's coming and what's going on and it sounds great. About 200 people have tentatively committed to being there. There will be plenty of activities for young and old (that's us) to go along with the traditional overindulging at the dances and tents. The giving committee has had some serious success with commitments from a number of you. We are well on the way to meet our goal and establish new 20th Reunion records. But we are not satisfied yet. We would love to increase the total even more and we'd love to broaden the participation to include more of the class. I hope you'll give it further consideration.
Now for the news. Doug Cogswell has moved his entrepreneurial self to Open Port Technologies in Chicago. He's been CEO of Palindrome, a $120-million division of Seagate Technologies and will now assume COO responsibilties at his new place. As with most of this high-tech stuff, I don't get it but it sounds very exciting. The press release explains the company creates software and hardware that "support worldwide message exchange across heterogeneous computing environments." I called Doug for clarification but he was out. We'll have to find out in June.
In other Internet-related news, Paula Selis is tracking the billing practices of America On-Line for attorney generals' office in Washington State. Keeping OnLine in line.
I got a note from Katy Miller with "a quick update on the last 20 years." She's an employment lawyer handling wrongful termination cases, is married, and has two daughters. They love to ski, ride bikes, hike, camp and get ample opportunity to do so living in Denver.
A couple professorial notes came in. Kathleen Segerson, a professor of economics at UConn, has been selected to serve as coeditor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. It publishes five times a year. I wonder, if she likes editing, if she might consider this prestigious post.
Up at Williams, James Mahon, associate professor of political science, was named chair of their political economy program.
I made a desperation call to '75 class secretary Pam Schlobohm with news on one of her classmates and she gave me some sketchy stuff on Janet Kluczynski's new job and some of the comings and goings of Andrea Kormann Lowe and Marian Meijer Doorley. If I'm not mistaken this is a powerful freshman-year North Mass group. Yes?
