Apparently, my threats of dragging this column through the dirt have worked, as the mail keeps pouring in these days! I have received five different mailings about a new, practically all Dartmouth-employed firm which was founded and is being led by one of our classmates. Stanley J. Kowalewskijr. founded Phoenix Advisers Inc., a money management investment banking firm, in November 1995. Kowalewski serves as chief executive officer and has headquartered the company in Greensboro, N.C. "I am joined at Phoenix by Matt Collins, who serves as president at the firm," writes Kowalewski. "Also on our staff is Jonathan Hess '95, who works as regional marketer in Boston, Mass." The Dartmouth connection continues at the firm, as the entire board of directors are Dartmouth alums. Phoenix manages capital for institutional and high net worth individuals, and "possesses a unique product which is available to investors around the globe." I could go on and on about this, as I have just about everything but the annual report right here in front of me. But thanks to others who wrote in, I won't. But if you're interested, call Stan. I'm sure he'll be happy to send you something. Mike Sanzone wrote in to relay his latest career moves. After finishing up a two-year analyst program at Alex, Brown in Maryland, Mike returned to New York, hoping to become a bartender for the summer before looking for another job. But corporate panic set in about two weeks into the summer, and Mike promptly got a job with Calvin Klein in their strategic planning department. But, just another two weeks later, rebuffed by Kate Moss and dejected by the size of his pay check, Mike again began to panic. Luckily, fate stepped in, and the London office at Alex, Brown offered him an associate position. Thus the two-week panic spell was broken, and since September, Mike has been living panic-free in London and loving his job. As for updates on other people, Mike gave me plenty. Here's a small rundown from his large list of folks. The info may seem a bit vague, but then again, consider who my source is. (Just kidding, Mike): Last time Mike ran into Mich Leopold in New York City, she was about to start working at a consulting firm there. He also ran into Louis Grieco, who is working at Lacoste.
Dan Lukas moved to San Francisco last August to start working at a firm we think is called Helman & Freeman. Melissa Kopff had finished up her third year at Michigan Law last spring and had spent the summer in D.C. Steve White is working for Lehman Brothers as an analyst in the real-estate group in Los Angeles. Alii Mitchell is studying "something to do with science" in Boston. AndrewKersey moved to Los Angeles and may be in a movie theater near you sometime. SarahJozus is in New York studying education at Columbia. And finally, Jeff Yasuda supposedly has "the swankest pad" that Mike has ever seen. So if you're sightseeing in new York, Jeffs apartment is a must-see. Now, briefly on to other news.
Kate Zubritsky wrote to me from Denver, Colo., where she has settled for the time being. She moved there from Orlando, Fla., where she was working for a medical software company. They transferred her out to Denver, and the fresh mountain air cleared her head, and she swiftly opted for a career change. She is now at a magazine publishing company, Wiesner Publications, and is enjoying learning about the publishing world. Kate is hoping to return to art school fulltime in the fall. I've got much more news about Kate's Dartmouth friends, as well as many more letters, but it will just have to wait until next month. In the meantime, please keep writing!
