"More baby news to report from many of you busy bees. Greg Johnson and wife Shawn announce the birth of their first child, Garrison Royce, on September 30 in New Orleans. Greg is wrapping up his final year as chief resident in the internal medicine/family practice program, and will be joining a hospital group in Tyler, Texas. Jana (Friedman) Brown and husband Jay also became proud parents this fall. Jana sent me a very cute photo of little Knox Ward Brown, who arrived on October 11, weighing in at 8 pounds and 11.4 ounces—wow. Jana, Jay and baby are doing well in Concord, New Hampshire! Another very adorable baby photo also arrived in my mailbox this fall with a long letter from Laura Frem attached. Laura and Jen Carter '93 welcomed Levi Jackson Carter-Frem into the world on May 8! "He is the most amazing and adorable little boy, easygoing and happy most of the time," writes Laura. Since graduation Laura has been teaching middle school, first in Detroit for three years (while Jen was working as an engineer at Ford Motor Co.) and now in Northborough, Massachusetts, for the past four years. Lauras extended maternity leave ended this fall, as she returned back to work in November. Jen is still an engineer, working at Bose Corp. since they moved back from Michigan. "We're pretty settled in this area—we own a home, we have the kid (as well as two cats and a dog), and our families are both in New England. Congrats to all you proud parents out there—and thanks for those adorable pictures—they keep me smiling! Pherabe Kolb writes with an update since her May 2002 graduation from Northwestern Law. From there she headed (back) to Washington, D.C., where she joined the legislative (lobbying) practice group at Verner Liipfert. "Soon after my arrival, my firm merged into another law firm (Piper Rudnick) and I learned what it must feel like to be traded (draft choices to be named later)!" writes Pherabe. "But, despite the name change, my work is the same (a mix of law, politics and policy, as well as plenty of time spent going through metal detectors on Capitol Hill) and is still a great, non-traditional way to use my law degree." Hope it's going well, Pherabe. Peter Flotten writes to give us an update about a Dartmouth-y weekend" he had recently, when he attended the wedding of Amy Prine and Stephen Morley in York, Maine on Saturday, October 12. "Maine's October weather forced the ceremony indoors, but the wind, the sea and Maine's rocky coastline provided a dramatic backdrop for their pictures," writes Peter. "After a honeymoon cruise to many warm, sunny locales, the couple returned home to Newmarket, New Hampshire." Other wedding attendees included Mike McClure and his wife, Val, and Deb (Connell) Nagorka and her husband, Scott. "Mike and Val flewin from Minneapolis, where they live with their 18-month-old son, Ryan, while Deb and Scott bravely made the trek north from sunny Tampa, where they have just finished moving into their new house, providing them with much-needed additional space." The reunion fun continued as Mike and Val drove to the Flottens' home in Brunswick, Maine, for an evening of catching up with Peter, his wife, Chesley '96, and their son, Connor. They were also joined by Jud Caswell and his wife, Marsey '95, who also live in Brunswick. Thanks for the update, Peter! Rolf Nelson writes from Troy, Michigan, where he has been developing Java software for a small (but growing) consulting firm with offices in Boston, Michigan and D.C. "In my spare time," writes Rolf, "I've been fencing, singing and trying hard to enjoy hockey." That sounds active and fun, Rolf. In my spare time, I've been reading, reading, and trying hard to enjoy reading more. I have about 500 books to read for my upcoming Ph.D. qualifying exams. Maybe I should take up fencing. Please write to me. I crave diversion.
