Mars hall Cleaves thanked me for my good birthday wishes to him and was sorry to be unable to accept my invitation to visit as "my visiting days are long gone." He is very fortunate to have a daughter in nearby Bedford who does his shopping, drives him to the doctors, and generally keeps an eye out. So he manages nicely in his apartment. He says he feels no pain and it's always good to see the next day!
Merritt Joslyn's widow, Evadna, wrote that they had celebrated their 52nd anniversary and he died quietly in his sleep. It was a joy to remember a happy life in travel, lots of golf, etc., and their two daughters and son now sustain her. She is most grateful.
I am looking forward to attending Leadership Weekend in September and will no doubt have the latest news of our new Dartmouth president, which I will pass along.
