I traveled to Hanover in September for alumni Leadership Weekend on behalf of the class of '74. This was my first trip in this capacity, and I must say, it was a lot of fan. I had the great fortune to run into attorney John Ward, who is an active member of the award-winning Washington, D.C., Dartmouth club. Although John and I were only distant acquaintances during school daze, we established a quick friendship over a beer at the Hanover Inn. He wrote to me later via e-mail the following very nice note:
"Don, I greatly enjoyed our conversation last Saturday night. As you so aptly put it, it is a real pleasure to connect with someone with whom you have a lot in common but may not have really gotten to know nearly 25 (gulp!) years ago.
"After we met, I gave some thought to how I could help the shadow reunion committee. First, I would love to see a number of our classmates who are friends of mine. In approximate alphabetical order, they are: Tom Ames, Jeff Baxter, Larry Doyle,Walt Gustafson Tom Hill, Tim Kelley (who is my law partner and is just downthe hall!), Dwight Kingsbury, KenKoby lenski, Andy Krakoff Bob Lande Bob Marcincin Ferdinand "Fred"Mauet Bruce Miller, ParkerMontgomery, Andrew "Drew" Newman,Andy Ruffett Rich Quittmeyer, JohnSheldon, Dave Sugerman Dave Sweet,Tom Watkin John "Jack" Wehner and Matt Wilkes. I also hope to see a smaller group of guys who were somewhere between friend and acquaintance 25 years ago and whom I have not seen since leaving Hanover—Andrew "Craig" Brown, Ken Canfield (his younger brother is a good friend and law partner), Mike Fonner,Charlie Kimber Turner Paddock (knew his wife, Inky Ford '76, much better), JohnPalme, Rick Shefchick and Keith Shenberger
"If you have the most recent addresses etc. (especially e-mail addresses) for some of these guys and can give me that info as well as much detailed info about the reunion as is now available, I will help to contact them and do what I can to persuade them to come to Hanover next spring. (From what I can tell, none of the guys on the first list, with three or four exceptions, have ever been to a reunion but most would, I think, be susceptible to the 'most of the gang will be there, what about you?' approach, especially the 'D' guys and the Russell Sage guys.) Give a call when you are next in D.C., and we can get together. John"
Which goes to show you that the 25 th is about seeing old friends as well as making new ones. Thanks, John!
So start calling your friends and making your plans for the Reunion. Call or e-mail me if you need phone numbers.
