I recently received news that Dr. Nicholas Riunmo was named to the board of trustees of the Northern Westchester _ Hospital Center. Nick had joined the Mount Kisco Medical Group as an internist and pulmonary subspecialist in 1976. He then served as president of the board of directors at the Mount Kisco Medical Group in addition to serving as medical director. After Dartmouth Nick received his medical degree from Duke Medical College.
There was also news in the class mailbag regarding Larry Keesey. His law firm, Young, van Assenderp and Varnadoe, P.A., announced that he had permanently relocated to the firm's Naples (Fla.) office. A partner of the firm, he had been working since 1990 out of their Tallahassee office. Prior to joining the firm he served as general counsel with Department of Community Affairs, a state land planning agency responsible for review of local comprehensive plans and developments of regional impact. After Dartmouth Larry served on active duty as a flight officer of the United States Naval Reserve and then earned his law degree from Florida State University College of Law in 1973.
Potlatch, a diversified forest products company, recently announced that Pendleton Siegel has been elected to the company's board of directors. He has served as Potlatch's president and chief operating officer since May 1994. Penn joined Potlatch in 1979 as manager of strategic planning. He was elected vice president-finance in 1987, and in 1989 was named senior vice president-finance and administration. From 1989 until his election as president he was vice president of several major operating divisions. Before joining Potlatch Penn spent eight years with Drexel Burnham Lambert and four years with Citibank.
Word from the University of California Davis is that Michael Jubien, a professor of philosophy at that institution, has recently authored a book, Contemporary Metaphysics (Blackwell, 1997). Just the light reading I was looking for! Congratulations to Nick, Larry, Penn, and Mike. Also from California, I received a delightfully humorous letter from Ed Keible describing his visit with Peter and Marcia Frederick in Sweden. Space does not permit inclusion of the letter in this column, but Allen Zern promises to print it in the newsletter.
Mike Orr sent along the detailed plans for our class's 55th birthday mini-reunion in Charleston, S.C., during the weekend of April 24-26, 1998. (Please note that this date represents a change from what was originally published.) With the lead time for this column, you will probably not receive this until just before the mini, but if you have not made up your mind, do plan to attend it really looks like a lot of fan! Charleston is an absolutely delightful city, and as Mike says, "whether your interests tend to history, antiques, golf, fishing, sightseeing, or just hanging out with friends old and new, the 55th party promises to exceed your expectations." Mike has put a tremendous amount of effort into planning this event, deserves a lot of credit, and is looking forward to a large turnout. Put it on your calendar!
