By now I hope you are all aware of the recent election of our own Russ Carson to the Board of Trustees of the _ College. A wonderful honor for a very deserving individual who has been extraordinarily supportive of Dartmouth in the past and who will undoubtedly make a great contribution as a Trustee in helping define Dartmouth's future. Congratulations, Russ, from the entire class. It's nice to have friends at the top!

Bob Komives recently sent along a note and photo of a '65 mini-reunion at the LeeArbuckle Ranch near Alzada, Mont. In describing the reunion, Bob writes that "planning began in Topliff Hall in the fall of 1961. Implementation came in June 1999. We heard so much from Lee Arbuckle during our freshman year at Dartmouth about his family ranch in southeastern Montana, we decided we needed to visit it. Logistics being difficult, it took several years to figure out how." He goes on to say that Don Boardman, JohnFletcher and his wife, Joan, and he and his wife, Marney, and a couple of other friends all gathered near Mount Rushmore to make the four-day trek. They biked across the Black Hills of South Dakota to Devil's Tower in Wyoming, then north to Montana and the Arbuckle Ranch. There, Lee and his wife, Maggie, and Maggie's mom "received us with hospitality that soothed our well-toned bodies and celebrated our triumphant spirit." They all spent several days at the Arbuckles's ranch along the Little Missouri River and judging from the photo, had a wonderful time.

President Jim Griffiths will be responsible for a considerable part of the agenda of Dartmouth Leadership Weekend (formerly Class Officers Weekend) this coming weekend in Hanover. As many of you know, Jim is the president of the Class President's Association. Undoubtedly, the continuing discussion and debate about the future of fraternities at Dartmouth will be widely discussed. Please let us all know your thoughts on this very explosive issue. With both Ted Atkinson (representing the classes of '65 and '66) and Jim Griffiths (representing the Class President's Association) serving on the Alumni Council and Russ Carson now a Trustee, no member of the class of 1965 should hesitate to offer his thoughts on current issues at the College.

I recently received an interesting letter from Bruce Wagner in which he indicated that following the sale of ITT Automotive, where he had served as vice president, worldwide marketing and communications, he had become the founder and president of Wagner and Co., Ltd., a management resource designed to help establish marketing and communications initiatives on a worldwide basis. He says that "this step to independence is good because it will allow me to concentrate my expertise on assisting a small number of clients to grow their business globally, while providing some personal flexibility."

As we approach our 35th Reunion, I hear again and again from classmates who are altering their professional careers to allow more "personal flexibility." For some this means retirement, but for most of us it seems to mean some tinkering with the work/play formula so that we remain challenged while complemented by a more fulfilling lifestyle. Please let us all know how you are addressing these issues.
