By the time you read this, I should have considerably more class news from our October mini-reunion (these columns are written three months in advance). The class pipeline needs more news but here is what I have to date.

Doug Richman from Lajolla, Calif., writes that he is professor of pathology and medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and director of the Research Center for AIDS and HIV infection. Doug and his wife Eva have been married for 30 years. Their daughter Sara, 23, has graduated from college while their son, Matthew, 18, recently graduated from high school.

From Manila, the Philippines, comes word of Steve Banta's recent promotion to senior economics editor at the Asian Development Bank. Steve's oldest son just received his M.S. in historical preservation from Penn and number two son received an engineering degree from Loyola Marymount. Steve would love to hear from classmates by e-mail at sbanta@mail.asiandevbank.org.

From the world of academia, Dave Weber reports from Exeter that he enjoyed a sixmonth sabbatical from January to June while spending a lot of time outdoors, mostly birding.

Ralph Griffin writes that he is retiring after almost 30 years in the Foreign Service, most recently in Quito, Ecuador. In May he started a new career as the husband of Susan Mayo. The wedding took place in Barcelona, Spain, and Ralph and Susan have now moved back to the States.

James Broselow was one of seven physicians recently granted medical staff privileges at Catawba Memorial Hospital. Jim where is Catawba Memorial? The article did not mention a location or have a byline. After Dartmouth Jim went to medical school at New Jersey College of Medicine and is board-certified in family practice and emergency medicine.

Tom Flechtner is joining the ranks of proud Dartmouth parents with daughter Robin having been accepted into the class of '99. Please let me know of other class legacies who will be Robin's classmates.

Through a friend,I recently learned that Bruce Wagner is vice president, communications for ITT Automotive Corp. in Auburn Hills, Mich. Bruce, we would like to hear any other news you have to share.

Ted Walkley '67 writes that the Dartmouth women's crew were not the only Dartmouth rowers at the April San Diego Crew Classic. Walkley and Hugh Lade rowed in an eight, manned by rowers of two Seattlebased rowing clubs, and won the men's masters 50-plus event. Congratulations Hugh and Ted! At Dartmouth Hugh had been the 1965 heavyweight captain and had just rejoined the sport a year ago. Victory was clearly intoxicating as Hugh and Ted are continuing to compete in a men's masters four-plus out of Lake Washington Rowing Club.

Whether you are like Hugh, rejoining an old sport, or starting a new one, we would love to hear about it. So please drop me a line or send e-mail.

The final count from our 30th Reunion, including spouses, significant others, and children, was 171—a real tribute to the hard work of reunion co-chairs Jim and Debbie Griffiths.
