I also visit two nursing homes weekly with my champion golden retriever Goldfish Annie, who is a super therapy dog." Charlene continues to live in San Diego, Calif.

From Omaha, Neb., comes word that George Payne was inducted into the Omaha hospitality Hall of Fame on October 19, 1998. He was secretary-treasurer of his family's restaurant from 1953 to 1970. According to a 1969 story in TheWorld Herald, recounting the fire that destroyed the restaurant, it was the oldest one-owner restaurant in the same location in Nebraska. His father, Nicholas Payne, purchased the restaurant in 1920. George said that until the restaurant burned, it was a part of his daily life. He has been active in the Omaha Restaurant Association, serving three terms as president and five terms as secretary. He also served one term as president of the Nebraska Restaurant Association. He attempted to establish a food-serving training program in the Omaha School District and worked for the Douglas County Health Department to help write inspection codes for restaurants.
