A column or two back, I mentioned that Brooks Jackson was appointed as district judge in Jefferson County's First Judicial District. This will be Brooks's first serious foray into criminal law, and he has spent many hours in preparation. He has been observing criminal proceedings, touring prisons, and going for ride-alongs in patrol cars, where he asks "really dumb questions like, 'after you get arrested, what happens next?"' All who know Brooks are confident that he will become a superstar on the bench. For the last 26 years Brooks has been toiling at the Holland & Hart law firm in Denver.
Charles Morey has been working in Salt Lake City since 1984 as artistic director of the Pioneer Theater Company. In this capacity he has adapted several nineteenth-century novels for the stage, many of them going on to professional regional theaters across the country. Roger DeLaurier, who directed Hunchback ofNotre Dame at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, was grateful that Morey rescued Hugo's story from the clutches of Disney, allowing its darker themes and literary value to entertain audiences. "Chuck does not dumb down a piece of literature, nor does he make it tedious. He has a great comic sense that infuses his writing and his directing."
Once again, I remind you of our 30th Reunion on June 17-20, 1999. Our theme is "Who can forget?" Just in case you have forgotten, there is still time to get your act in gear. Make the effort.
Take care, write, and stay off the list!
