More than three-quarters of a century after our matriculation you'll be happy to know that the class of 1925 continues as a driving force at Dartmouth. I receive so many letters from today's students expressing their thanks and appreciation for the scholarships and awards sponsored by members of the class. I wish there was room to include all of the successes, but I will, at least, highlight some of the amazing achievements of these bright, active, and caring young people of today.

The Thomas P. Carpenter 1925 Memorial Scholarship for the past four years sponsored Bonnie Chung '98, who graduated cum laude with a grade point average of 3.65. (She was profiled in an earlier column.) Bonnie is now a systems analyst at Deloitte & Touche in Boston.

The current Carpenter holder is Mateusz Nowak '02. Now a U.S. citizen, he moved from Poland to Michigan eight years ago. While at the University Liggett School he was a member of the National Honor Society and received the principal's award and was also the Newman Scholar for three years. He was captain of the soccer, basketball, and track teams while finding time to serve as editor for both the school newspaper and literary magazine. He had an outstanding first term at Dartmouth, earning a 4.0 grade point average. He is a fine choice as the new Carpenter scholar.

The Dorothy Hall Leavitt (late wife of Larry Leavitt) Field Hockey Team Award went to Lauren Scopaz '00, who also was on the National Academic squad and second-team All-Ivy League for national awards. She has been a scoring leader for the past three seasons and was just elected captain for the '99 season.

Ken McDonough, at 95, is enjoying reasonable health and still has his wonderful sense of humor and a twinkle in his bright blue eyes. He has kept his house in Green Valley, Ariz., where his daughter now lives, and is now residing in a lovely retirement home nearby in Green Valley. He goes home often for dinners and parties and it's great for family mini-reunions. Dick McDonough '52, my husband, and I were out there in January and he has had several grand- and great-grandchildren visiting recently. He has ten great-grandchildren; I wonder who might have more? Please let me know.

With the year 2000 approaching, the 75th Reunion is only a little more than a year away. Do try to be there; the College and all of us will do our very best to make things both comfortable and special for you
