We heard from Von Beebe in September. After college Von earned his master's and doctorate in education at Columbia. There is a fine article about Von in The Biscayne Bay (Fla.) Tribune. He taught Spanish first in New York and then in California. Later Von decided to become an elementary school principal, a role he seems to like. In the 25th Reunion book Von wrote, "I have resisted the pull toward downtown promotions with the school system. I am where I want to be at this point in my life: working directly with students in a neighborhood school." For the past nine years Von has had a special mission in the Dade County public schools. The newspaper article credits Von with"the success of Coconut Grove Elementary School's impressive turn around, and its continued success in attracting gifted students and providing an enriching and culturally diverse environment for learning.... When asked to explain his success, Beebe will tell you he has a team philosophy. 'It may have started from my days as captain of my college rugby team.' "

Steven Roth was in the financial news awhile ago: "Real estate tycoon Steven Roth is turning his sights across the Hudson River to buy Newark's premier office complex. Roth's high-flying real estate investment trust Vornado Realty Trust is bidding as much as $150 million on four office towers in the Gateway complex in the heart of Newark."

Cary Clark, Dartmouth college counsel for 25 years, stepped down this past September. President James Wright broke the news in July, stating in part, "It is difficult for many of us to think of a Dartmouth without Cary Clark on the second floor of Parkhurst. I understand and appreciate his wish to move on to other things at this point in his life.... I share this news with gratitude for all he has done to make this a stronger place, with regret that he will no longer be available nearby with good advice, good judgment and good humor, and with good wishes to him as he takes time to enjoy and explore."

The December 1999 Graphic ArtsMonthly has a nice piece about Logic Associates, the company that Warren"Zog" Loomis founded in 1970 along with Tuck School graduate Nick Orem. Imagine, 30 years ago (and more) Zog envisioned the potential of database management and the burgeoning era of computers—before there were any desktop computers.

Jim Morse works for the State of Vermont and practices law. He has only a handful of associates in his organization and we hear that the office is kind of old. No matter. Since 1988 Jim has been one of the Vermont Supreme Court justices. There was an important decision in December in which the court found that same-sex marriage are supported by the Vermont Constitution.

It is my privilege to learn about my classmates and to pass the news along. Keep in touch!
