Derrick Lopez is a busy man. He is the husband of Lisa; father of adopted son Timothy, 20, daughter Adaiah, 2, and son Nehemiah, 1; and proud grandfather of Benjamin, born last year. Now he is also the founder of a school, Heirs of the Promise Preparatory Academy. The school opened this past February, and is an urban, Christian, private school. Currently the school has a small student body ranging from preschool through grade six, but will add a grade each year and eventually serve students from preschool through high school. Derrick wishes to askhis classmates and other alums for their prayers as he begins this endeavor. He also is looking for suggestions for equipment, financial and spiritual support, and you can e-mail him through the VOX alumni network. "This is going to be a long, difficult but rewarding journey for me and my family, but the prayers of the faithful men and women of God will result in all that the school needs," writes Derrick.

Sarah Rosenfield Worley writes: "Now that my 6-year-old daughter Nina has explained the functioning of our computer to me, I thought I would send in a note. My family is settled in Marion, Mass. When we are not entertaining hordes of Nina's first-grade companions, I am a vice president at a mediation and arbitration firm. My husband, Nathanael, is a business proposals manager at a company in Rhode Island. We are in touch with TedHampton on a regular basis and recently saw Meredith McCreedy Winter 'B9 and her husband, Mark. Laurie Lopes was kind enough to send our daughter a Dartmouth women's basketball program signed by all of the players, which was a source of great excitement in our house for weeks. Otherwise, we are living blissfully ordinary suburban lives."

Dan Gisser works for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y. He and his wife, Kathy, recently returned from a hiking vacation in Arizona. Dan sent news that Jim Goodrich and wife Marion are new parents, welcoming Olivia True Goodrich on March 18. It has been a busy year for the Goodrich family. They moved from Cleveland to Baltimore, started new jobs (Jim is an attorney, Marion is a violinist), became parents and are now looking to buy a home.

Finally, Valerie Frankel checked in to let me know about the publication of her new novel, Smart vs. Pretty. Val is the articles editor at Mademoiselle, and has previously written four mystery novels and co-authored three non-fiction books. She lives in New York with her husband and two daughters Maggie, 5, and Lucy, 18 months.
