A bit late to report on our October mini-reunion, but the magazine went to press before that, in October, and then not again 'til December. So no mea culpas from me. Think it was our best mini turnout. Nancy and Reg Pierce hosted our kickoff dinner on Thursday night. Great night! Friday morning was an academic presentation. I thought it the most informative we've ever had. Associate professor Diederik Vandewalle was the speaker. His topic was a history and update on the Israeli-Arab problem. I think we all came away knowing a good deal more about it. I know I never knew much except what the papers say. But our speaker was absolutely great. Dinner Friday night followed by the bonfire, and a large contingent of '46ers marched in the parade, to the cheers of the crowd. Saturday, our class meeting, we heard about ourupcoming 55th from Jim von Rohr and Ray Dewees, Alumni Fund from Tom Adams, finances from your writer, and thanks to all from prez Buol Hinman. We voted to continue our annual gifts to the book restoration program and athletic sponsors. Walt Snickenberger, as always, did a fine job, setting up the whole weekend. But on a sad note, announced his retirement as mini-reunion chair. His farewell address not nearly as moving as Whitey Burnham s, a few years back, but to some it brought back memories of Douglas Mac Arthur, even George Washington. Thank you, Walt. Do not despair. Al "Monk" Martin has agreed to take on the job (there were 43 applicants), and he'll continue the great tradition of super mini-chairs. Of course Bob Kimball will assist and we all know his capabilities. Don't we?

Oh yes, we played the John Haivards in football, and lost. Saturday night dinner at the Inn. Guest speaker was baseball coach Bob Whalen. Told us that the Big Green had the most wins ever in the 2000 season. Here's who showed: Edie and John McClintock, Suzy and Earle Angstadt, Emilie and Tom Adams, Hamilton Bailey, Delma and Harold Barr, Ann and Don Barr, Joanne and "Whitey" Bumham, Evelyn and Harlan Brumstead, Dot and Bob Clifton, Mary and Tom Cohn, "Chip" Coleman, Lilla and Milt Cooper, Bobbie and Bill DeStefano, Susan and Ray Dewees, Joe Donahue, Jean Engelhart, Sandy Fitchet (Duncan's son), Maiy and Don Fitzsimmons, Grace and Jud Hannigan, Buol and Joan Hinman, Ruth and Jack Howard, Jackie and Bob Kimball, Rosemary Marlette, Ginny and Marty Marino, Al "Monk" Martin, Terry and John Murray, Ruth (Fitchet) and Ed Meade (Yale), Walt Snickenberger and Anne Neilson, Molly and Ed Scheu, Sue and Roy Swenson, Jim von Rohr, Ellen and Nick Vorys. I think the big turnout bodes well for 55 th. Start planning.

Attention snowbirds! If you're in Florida on Sunday, March 11, 2001, there's a mini-reunion for '44, 45 and '46 in Punta Gorda, Florida. Call Buol Flinman for details when you're in Florida. His number is (941) 485-5555. On a further social note, have been advised that Patricia and Joe Verdi celebrated 50 years of marriage last June. Press release says Joe was a WW II naval officer and "went on to graduate from Dartmouth College." He was at Dartmouth before becoming a naval officer. Congrats to both of you. You'll be getting reunion notices. Hope you'll be there.
