At Saint Johns Church in Washington, Connecticut, a service in thanksgiving for the life of Elmer Teare Browne was conducted on June 23 by the Rev. Robert L. Ficks III.
Dartmouth friends attending were Tina and John Moore, Ann Berger, Crosbie MacMillen, Stet Witcher, Donna and Jack Faunce, Joe Burnett, Bill Hlsey and Ginna Risley.
In the homily, the Rev. Ficks (unpacking, hot and sweating and no collar) referred to his first meeting with Brownie. Went like this: 'Are you the new minister? I'm Elmer Browne. Are you any good? We'll see. This is not an easy place—strong opinions and they want to tell you what they are—but if you don't agree, do what you believe."
Dartmouth music was included in the voluntary.

In an upcoming issue the Dartmouth AlumniMagazine will document the "sense of place" that the College has long enjoyed in the hearts and minds of its graduates. Please tell me about the one campus spot that meant the most to you. Your dorm room, a classroom, a playing field, your fraternity, a comfortable chair in the Tower Room. Let's show the others that the class of 1940 remembers. Write to me NOW!
