"Our Special Places" (think Sound of Music, "My Favorite Things")

Webster Hall convocation, with Prez McLaughlin, Freshman fall, and you wonder how you got in? English 5, Math 3, language lab for a year, These favorite things are what brought us here!

Fall football tailgates, and beers at Five Olde, Skating on Occom in the New Hampshire cold, The sound of the echo as the Baker bells ring; These are a few of our favorite things.

The "layer" at Thayer, late coffee at Collis; Off-campus housing with friends who adore us; Sanborn in the spring with doors opened wide Our passion for Dartmouth we just cannot hide!

When senior year comes, When the snow falls, There's no way to feel sad... We simply remember these favorite things and are proud to be A Dartmouth Grad!

The above class contribution to this "special places" issue was crafted with help from Stephen Favrot, Lorenzo Chambers, Allison Shutz Moskow and Jennifer Archibald Williams (with many thanks to Roger and Hammerstein!). I hope it helps you reminisce on your favorite things and special places on and around the Hanover plain. I'm sure you cannot stop humming a few bars.

As to the news of our classmates: David E. Marder left his position as senior trial counsel and assistant district administrator of the Boston district office of the Securities & Exchange Commission in September 2001 to join Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, also in Boston. He is focusing his practice on complex commercial litigation, securities litigation and intellectual property litigation—perhaps I should contact David about copywriting the above "intellectual property"?

Dr. Stephen Favrot provided his list of special places all the way from Birmingham where he and wife, Jeanne, reside with their four kids. He was disappointed to have missed last years reunion but he promises to make the 20th—and we intend to hold him to that promise! Oh, and by the way, the"most special place" on Steves list was the AXA basement but I just couldn't get a rhyme going on that one—sorry, Steve!

Lorenzo Chambers watched proudly last fall as his son, Lorenzo, played on a football team ages 11-14 that won the national championship in Pop Warner football. The championship was played in Orlando, Florida, and Dad Lorenzo was assistant offensive coordinator. Congratulations—any visit to Disneyworld for the Chambers family? Lorenzo also shared that fellow former Big Green teammate Ed Simpson led the class tailgates at virtually every football game last fall (no other details on Ed provided); Scorpio Rogers just moved into a new home (location undisclosed); Karyn Marsh received her M.S.W. from NYU last May and received certification by passing the licensing exam in December; and Todd Cranford is chairing the biennial BADA reunion scheduled for spring 2 002 (not certain if this will be in Hanover). Hey, Lorenzo—the news is awesome; gotta work a little bit on the details!

David Hall shared the news of his growing family in Milton, Massachusetts. Wife Meredith delivered Elizabeth Hasting Hall in November to join her big sister, Kendall (6), and brother, Parker (4). David is a real estate developer at KBS Realty Advisors in Boston. So, David, is the skyline of construction cranes in Boston every going to change?

And Marilyn Gisser shared the joyous news of the September 30 arrival of Melissa, joining big sister, Alicia. Marilyn has been home full-time with her daughters for the past year living in Olympia, Washington, with husband Jeff Even.

All the best to all of you.
