We open this month's column with excerpts from a screed by a Lesser God of Ohio: Bob Sheehan. "Spent eight years with Andersen Consulting, allowing me to remain the Columboy, while traveling the country. My focus gave me the chance to spend time in great places like Paducah, Topeka, and Baton Rouge, rather than dreary old Manhattan. Bailed out in early 2000 to run a lot of venture money right into the ground at a dot-com. It was a great product but we had no sales, and I was laid off on Sept 10, 2001. Landed on my feet at BMW Financial Ser- vices right after that, where I have been since. Margot and the girls (Erin, 5, and Kendra, 3) are doing great."
Erica Coles Jacobsen writes: "W0w,2003 has just flown by! After being laid off from the tech start up I had been at for two and a half years on the Friday before Christmas, I was worried that 2003 wouldn't be my year. But on New Year's Eve that changed when my longtime sweetheart, Todd Jacobsen (UNH 91), proposed in Maine at Sugarloaf/USA, where we were married on August 2. Our wedding party included matronof-honor Joanne Benisch Preisser and my brother, Bryson Coles '95, as a groomsman. Guests included Rebecca Hall, Ed Kerrigan and wife Michelle Brownlee '9O, Tracey Dodds Hoover (with 6-week-old son Erick), Cathy Campaigne '90, Kim Kluck '90, Kathleen Bender Patton '89, Danielle Greene Barney '89, and Christine Perry Smith '90. We will continue to make our home in Newburyport, Massachusetts, where we love to train for road races and triathlons, and basically just enjoy the beach and seashore lifestyle. New e-mail address to go with the new name: erica jacobsen@hotmail.com."
She missed the cut but she got the ring: On August 9 Robb D'Amore proposed to his fiancee, LPGA golfer Lisa Kiggens, during the second round of the Wendy's Championship for Children in Dublin, Ohio. Robb, who caddied for her at the event, arranged for "Lisa, Will You Marry Me?" to be posted on the leader board. The proposal made news around the country, including ESPN Sports Center. Sidley Austin Brown & Wood announced on July l that Josh Hofheimer has been named a partner. Josh works in the firm's L.A., office where his practice includes technology and intellectual property transactions.
Here's a gift for that special someone on your Festivus list: Jim Zug's recently published Squash:A History of the Game. It has received good reviews and includes a glowing forward by George Plimpton. Jim and wife Rebecca live in D.C., where she is a dean and teacher at Sidwell Friends and he "ponders the decorating dynamics of my little office becoming a nursery once our firstborn arrives in December."
Carlos and Betsy Cavelo Norena welcomed their son, Carlos Cavelo, into the world on July 16. They live in New Haven, where Carlos the elder is a classics professor at Yale and Betsy teaches seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade Latin. Small world: Andi Benin gave baby Carlos one of his first check-ups.
Tate Camille Vaccaro arrived three weeks ahead of schedule on August 16 weighing in at 5 pounds, 6 ounces. Mom Carla and dad David made the drive from Darien, Connecticut, to Cornell Medical Center in N.Y.C. in only 45 minutes as the roads were surprisingly traffic-free at midnight. I'm certain the speed limit was observed during the entire trip.
Best wishes for happy holidays.
