Michael Arad delivered the convocation address welcoming the class of 2008 (if that doesn't make you feel old I don't know what will) on September 21st to open the Colleges 235 th year. As reported in this very column and by every news outlet in the world, his design for the World Trade Center Site Memorial, Reflecting Absence, was chosen by the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. in January. Michael joined the firm of Handel Architects as a partner in April.
Kimberly and Dick Rinkema submitted a highly creative screed regarding the birth of their first child. Word limits won't allow reprinting it in its entirety so here is an excerpt. "Our due date came and went, and it felt like we were waiting, each day a few hours longer than the last. As we waited we couldn't help but think of a certain band of brothers, trying to find its way to the bright lights of fame and stardom from the dark depths of a warm and echoing place. To describe the last week we offer the following:
"Derek: Well, we've kept 'em waiting long enough. Let's do it to them. C'mon, Mick! "David: This way? "Derek: No, this way. "Derek: Straight through. Rock 'n' roll! Hello, Cleveland! Hello, Cleveland! "Janitor: You must've made a wrong turn. "Derek: We gotta go another way. "David: Other way. Other way. Other way. "Fortunately, even a newborn can do better
than our head-bangin' heroes so, let's give a hearty round of applause to the newest member of the band, Benjamin Ansel, who found his way onto the family stage on August 12, weighing 8 pounds, 8 ounces (a dwarf trodding upon Stonehenge, he was not). Rock and roll stardom may be years away, but Kimberly and I are already dancing to little Ben's tune, approximately every two hours or just as we begin to drift off into REM sleep, whichever comes first."
The Food Bank of Central New York named Stephanie Crowley as a development associate in July. She handles communications and public relations responsibilities, and assists with special events, donor appreciation and newsletters. Recently relocated from San Francisco, Stephanie spent the last 10 years in public relations, representing performing arts groups with Carla Befera & Cos. and serving as a personal publicist for world champion boxer Gina Guidi.
Walt and Suzanne Saurack are proud to announce the birth of Emily Corrine on June 30.
Laura Friedman Klein wins the award for submitting the most news of other classmates this issue. "I gave birth to my second child, Rachel Genna, on June 26. She's beautiful and far better behaved than her older brother, Nathaniel, was as a baby. In October I resumed my job as the pro bono program manager at the Department of Justice. Any federal government attorneys out there who are interested in volunteering their skills should get in touch with me at laura.f.klein@usdoj.gov! In case you hadn't heard already, Anda Kuo and her husband, Mike Shlipak '90, gave birth to twins Kaira (girl) and Kyan (boy) in December. The twins join older sister Kailee. She also started a new job in April, heading up a program to train medical residents to better assist and treat the underserved low-income community. George Price and his wife, Heidi, gave birth to their third child, Eric Matthew, in early July. All are well, including their daughters, Kaitlyn and Natalie. Judy Moon has abandoned the law as a profession and has returned to school to become a doctor! She entered the Bryn Mawr post-bac program this past summer and will start med school in a year or so. More power to her—l couldn't go back to school again. Law school was enough for me!"
Best wishes for a happy Festivus and keep the news coming in 2005!
