The class has a new vice president, Ted Arico. The nominating committee suggested Ted when Dutch Schaefer wrote that Bob Kirk was resigning because he cannot give his full attention to class matters while devoting his time to his real estate in Florida and New Jersey. Bob tried by phone to change Dutch's mind, but he was adamant and so Bob accepted the resignation with regret. Ted agreed to serve after the responsibilities of the position were spelled out.
Joe McCormick sent me a copy of a "special diploma" he has received from "the government of France for your contribution in the fight to liberate France from the Axis powers in World War II," in connection with the 60th anniversary of D-Dayjune 1,1944. Joe says that as far as he knows this designation is the only one cited in his geographic area, and he was quite pleased with the favorable feedback from people in central Illinois.

The class contribution to the annual College Fund surpassed its goal of $120,000, raising $128,000 through June 30. That's the report from Warren Kreter, our fundraiser extraordinaire. Warren also said that our 73.5 percent participation was among the highest class totals. Congrats are in order for all of you who shared in this effort. Most importantly, the total fund was of record proportions.
As you know, '42 has a program with the library in which the class contributes each year for the purchase of books that are then memorialized for each of our deceased classmates. I have just gotten a copy of an updated list that shows the name, date of death and the book title selected for each classmate. If you would like a copy of this list, let me know. There were 38 men in the latest group, some whose deaths were a number of years back.
