Bill Bogardus in Boston notified me of news about Fred Schauer and Harold Bernt. Bill wrote of enjoying Dartmouth's 30-16 victory over Harvard. Also attending were Bill White, Ted Neill and Joe Alviani. The victory spoiled the 100th anniversary of the stadium.

Frederick Schauer is Frank Stanton Professor of the First Amendment (since 1990) and former academic dean (1997-2002) at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He focuses on constitutional law, freedom of speech and press, international legal development, and the philosophical dimensions of law and rules. Fred was a visiting professor of government at Dartmouth in 1997 and William Morton Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Humanities in 1991. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship (2001-02). Fred earned the M.B.A. at Tuck in 1968 and the J.D. at Harvard in 1972. His latest book Profiles,Probabilities, and Stereotypes is an examination of justice and the use of generalities in the American legal system.

John Isaacs and Bob Burka report the mini-reunion in the Washington metropolitan area in October went well, with Wayne Beyer, Bob Burka, Bruce Chasan, John Isaacs, Larry Leiken, David Millane, Wayne Johnson, Sam Ostrow and Steve Pond attending the event held at the law firm Foley and Lardner. Perhaps it will become an annual event.

Am sorry to report that Harold Bernt died in October while vacationing in Galway, Ireland. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Harold grew up in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. At college he was a member of Casque & Gauntlet and president of Gamma Delta Chi. He was a self-employed insurance representative of the Colonial Supplemental Insurance Co. for more than 20 years. His primary interests included his family, world travel and sports. Our sympathies to his wife, M. Marie Gerli.

Also sad to write that Gerald Anthony Harris- Smith of Palermo (north of Buenos Aires, Argentina) died in May after an accident. Ezeuiel Abella (his godson) passed on that Tony was single and a successful teacher at several institutes for the last 15 years. He is survived by his mother, Erica Funck, sister Teeny Harris-Smith and brother Tommy.
