It is a rare event to have a teammate inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame (especially from the Ivy League), but I was fortunate to attend a very impressive gathering at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City when Murry Bowden was inducted. Dartmouth was well represented, with more than 14 tables filled with friends, family and Dartmouth dignitaries, including 1971 classmates Joe Daly, Bob Cordy, Joe Jarrett, Tom Price, Bob Peters, John Short, Tony Fitzpatrick and yours truly, former dean Caroll Brewster, College President James Wright and many others too numerous to mention in this brief column (look for more extensive article on our class Web site). It was a great honor, not only for Murry, but also for the entire Dartmouth community. It was truly a memorable evening for all who were able to attend.

Mark your calendars for March 11, the 71st day of the new year, for our annual class dinner at Rene Pujol Restaurant in New York City.

Rich Crandall reports that, after having worked for four years for Red Hat (a leading Linux company), he is about to exchange his laptop for tractor and tiller as he starts to work his farm outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Rich prefers to think of it not as retirement but as redeployment.

Steve Haynes is returning to Minneapolis to assume the Laurel A. French Chair as professor and head of the department of neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota. He reports that while his time as chair of the department at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston was professionally very educational and great for his golf game, the "granite in his brain" longed for winter, the professional opportunity is excellent, and his wife, Jennifer, will be happier in her home state.

Dave Aylward writes that he has been in frequent communication with Dartmouth roommate and still best friend, Dave Lenci. As president of National Strategies Inc. in Washington, D.C., Dave (Aylward) writes" "I am still doing mostly safety work, running our largest client, which is a coalition of 90 organizations working to improve emergency communications." Dave (Lenci) is a partner in Preston, Gates and Ellis in Seattle, where he specializes in complex litigation.

October 26 was the date of the first Streeter Hall Golf Open in Waterbury, Connecticut. Classmates Doug Sayles, Doug Lehman and I teamed up against '72s Charlie Monagan, Lloyd Ucko and Rand Burnett. The weather wasn't too cooperative, but we enjoyed a round where the "leaf rule" prevailed, greatly improving our scores. We swapped remembrances of those who inhabited Streeter during the four years that we were there and promised to tiy to make this a yearly get-together. If any other Streeter alums are interested, please drop me a line.
