Another of our classmates has received an outstanding honor: Bill Barnet II has been elected to the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. This honor is a result of Bill's significant contributions to his community and his state and because he is a role model for our youth.

He joined his family's business, William Barnet & Son Inc., in 1968 and his career there has taken him from loading trucks to CEO. The company is a leading processor and trader of synthetic and manmade fiber and resin, with eight plants in the United States and Europe, and it does business in more than 50 countries. Three years ago he sold the company to a group of his associates. Bill, a Spartanburg resident, has been actively involved in the leadership of civic and charitable organizations in his community and state.

He is former chairman of the Palmetto Business Forum, past president of the S.C. Textile Manufacturers Association and chairman of the board of trustees of Converse College. His honors include the 1998 Alan Willis Society of Service Award from the Spartanburg Development Association, 2001 Business Person of the Year Award from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the Neville Holcomb Distinguished Citizen Award, sponsored by the Spartanburg Chamber.

Don't forget to advise Gerry Day about your presence at our 70 th reunion the weekend of the Yale Game, October 8-10. It should be a wonderful weekend.

With sadness we report the deaths of Bill Wilson, Harry Gilmore, Charley Strauss, Bud Powell and Joe Bender. Our sincere sympathies to their families.
