Hugh R. Frater is in the news. PNC Financial Services Group Inc. on February 12 announced the appointment of Hugh as executive vice president and head of real estate finance. Frater is responsible for balance sheet lending, including providing financial solutions for the acquisition, development, permanent financing and operation of commercial real estate nationally. The principles of ADD Inc. announced the appointment of Frederick A. Kramer, AIA, to president-elect of the 33-year-old planning, architecture, interior and graphic design firm. Fred will be very busy with offices in Cambridge, San Francisco and Miami.
Dorian Wilson is a doctor and surgeon, and a liver transplant specialist at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. Several months ago Dorian met with several prominent physicians to discuss their work in encouraging minorities to pursue careers in health care, and talk about the importance of becoming a donor. Dorian was honored by the New Jersey Sharing Network, which brought the doctors to highlight the importance of organ donation.
Thomas Russo manages more than $1 billion in holdings as a partner at Gardner, Russo & Gardner, an investment firm that employs a strategy of value investing in the vein of Warren Buffet. Like Buffett, Russo looks for companies with a strong balance sheet and brand name that are trading at a low price. Brian Deevy is now chairman and CEO of Daniels and Associates in Denver, Colorado. While Brian has primary responsibility for the cable television group, he also ensures that Daniels serves as a catalyst for client goals across several sectors of the media, Internet and telecommunications industries worldwide. Paul Gigot, editorial page editor for TheWall Street Journal, talked about the 2004 presidential primaries and the November election back in March at the University of Hartford's Deeds Symposium. Named one of Washington's 25 most influential journalists by the NationalJournal, Gigot appears regularly as a political analyst on NBC's Meet the Press.
Received an e-mail from Jeff Lyon in Cape Cod, who reports that his nephew was admitted for the class of 2008. His nephew is a lacrosse recruit from Baltimore, which will make him the third generation of the Lynn family to play that sport at Dartmouth, dating back to Jeff and his dad, the captain in '52. Jeff's oldest daughter is an '07. Jeff and his wife, Jen, are still very active and often take the opportunity to climb Mt. Moosilauke.
Had a great time at Club Officers Weekend back in March. Classmates in attendance were Richard D. Baum, who is vice president of the northern New Jersey chapter, and Jay MacNamee, who is the Webmaster for the Seacoast Club in Maine. Jay was therewith his lovely wife, Susan. Thomas West is the president of the Georgia Club and also serves on the executive committee of the Club and Affiliated Group Officers. Received an e-mail from Hanover about Jennifer Leigh Warren starring in the The Reprise! production of Kismet. Jennifer was playing the part of Lalumeat the University of California, Los Angeles.
Congratulations to board of trustee chair person Susan Dentzer, who was honored with the Daniel Webster Award by the Dartmouth Club of Washington on April 17. In attendance at the event were Susans freshman roommate, Jenny Clarke. Susan has been presenting and elucidating news stories concerning health-related issues to viewers of Public Broadcasting's The News Hourwith Jim Lehrer. Susan completes her 11-year service on the board of trustees, which she chairs, in June. President James Wright and Susan De Bevoise Wright were in attendance along with numerous alums, family and friends.
