I begin this column with a follow-up from last months concluding note about filmmaker Randi Dottin (sorry to embarrass you, Randi, but you deserve the acclaim!)—I wrote that little snippet about Randi, and then much later received more vital and specific info: Randi and writer Mikki del Monico, both 2003 film graduates from Columbia, recently received the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Feature Film Award, which provides support for the production of a feature length film with a focus on science and technology. The Sloan Award is the largest single award available to Columbia film students or recent alumni, and the first to support feature films. Dottin and del Monico's winning project, Indelible, depicts an African-American female scientist racing to find a cure for the deadly disease that took the life of her husband and threatens her son. They will begin shooting the film in Harlem next summer. In the months since graduation from Columbia, Randi has already received acclaim for his thesis short film A-Alike, which premiered on HBO last December (as previously mentioned in this column), and won the award for best short at the Roxbury Film Festival. In 2003 Randi was also named Best African-American Filmmaker by the Directors Guild of America. He took second place in the National Board of Review for Motion Pictures Award and was a finalist in the HBO Short Film competition at the American Black Film Festival. How could I let my mention of Randi's film pass without listing all of these incredible accolades he's received?! Best of luck, Randi, and congrats on all of these achievements—here's to many more!
As for news outside the entertainment industry, we have exciting news from the world of classmate Andrew Plumridge, who was married back in October 2000 to Jessica Brown (Smith '93) in Harwich, Massachusetts. Among the groomsmen were Steve Costalas, Mike Lepore and Kevin Fleming '93. Other '94s included Gib Dunham, Kerry Whitacre, Artie Zweil (also married to a Smith '93, Ceit McCaleb), Paul Morf, Tracie and Eric Waack-Larson, Tor Trivers, Bridget Murphy and Pete Stoll. In September 2001 Andrew and Jessica moved from Luxembourg to London, where they are now living on Dartmouth Park Road. ("Still bleeding green, I'm afraid," writes Andrew.) Andrew is still with PricewaterhouseCoopers, but has moved out of audit and now works in risk management consulting, dealing mainly with investment management and insurance clients. Last December Andrew and Jess welcomed their baby girl, Zoe Ruth, into the world! "She has more hair than her daddy," writes Andrew, "and is, I'm sure, looking forward to her first trip to Dartmouth, no later than our reunion in June 2005." Congratulations, Andrew, and enjoy those strolls with the little one along Dartmouth Park Road! Gregg Frame writes about the arrival of his own little one: Jake Christopher arrived on December 23,2003, in South Portland, Maine, "much to the chagrin of older sister Lillian, who initially wanted to send Jake back,' " writes Gregg. Gregg practices labor and employment law, and would love to see any folks who might be traveling through southern Maine. I'll be there for dinner on Sunday, Gregg. Christopher Tung writes in with a fantasy-turnedreality of many corporate hard workers: "My wife, Christina, and I left our investment banking jobs in New York in 2001 to open a bed-and-breakfast in Tuscany. Having worked like dogs for the past few years we are finally open for business. Check out our Web site atwww.ankhura.com and come over and visit us!" All these invitations—dinner with the Frame family in South Portland, a weekend in Tuscany with the Tungs, our 10-year reunion in June 2005. ..yes, 10 years. Good luck, everyone, and keep writing!
