The 40th reunion was held May 28-31 and was a wonderful opportunity for some 224 members and spouses to get together again. New officers were elected at the reunion. Our thanks to Steve Blecher and his outgoing group of officers for their fine service. Ed Williams, chairman of the 40th reunion, assumes Steve's role as president. Under the leadership of Ed Williams and his reunion committee (Marc Kirschner and Hunt Whitacre) plus the great efforts of many classmates, the reunion was memorable. Among the events, we had a terrific seminar on the Middle East given by professor Dale Eichelman, writer Dave Shipler and Middle East oil expert Chuck Pitman. The seminar on Sunday was hosted by former and current trustees and classmates Stan Roman, Ron Schram, Dave Shipler, Bill Neukom and Brad Evans. We enjoyed the discussions and thank them all for great service to the College. The Sunday dinner at Alumni Hall was a highlight. President Wright graciously received the $3.3 million class gift—nearly doubling the 40th reunion record (great job by Brad Evans, Sabin Danziger and Pete Luitwieler) with participation at 67 percent—led by Roy Lewicki. The evening finished off with an entertaining auction of Dartmouth memorabilia led by George Fesus and the voice of the auction, Bob Bartles—raising more than $l0,000 in the process. The Monday memorial service at Rollins Chapel put together by the Rev. Bob Mac Arthur was very inspirational and remembered the 55 class members who have passed away. Afterward Bob Battles conducted the dedication ceremony of our class gift, a sugar maple, with a plaque quoting Dr. Seuss and TheLorax: "Be a friend to the trees and to each living thing." Pictures of the reunion attendees can be obtained for $15 per 8-by-10, just give me an email. Candid pictures taken at the reunion are posted on www.dartmouthcoop.com; click on "1964 reunion pics." Awonderful CD is available of the best Glee Club concerts during our years at the College. Please send a $17 check payable to "Dartmouth Class of 1963" to Peter DeForth, 3815 Winterset Drive, Annandale, VA 22003- 2239. A special "cheer" to Bill Neukom, elected chairman of the Dartmouth board of trustees. We thank Bill for his personal efforts with the College, and financial contributions that included a $22 million gift to create a center for computational science. Looking ahead, please put Homecoming on your calendar—date is October 29, bonfire, Glee Club, etc. We have reserved the Hayward Lounge for a reception after the football game. Other festivities are being planned.
