The class executive committee, an ad hoc group comprised of class officers, those attending meetings at Pierces each fall mini-re-union, and those making it to Webster's in late June to discuss class business, met at Webster's on June 24. Bill and Sue hosted Jim Griffiths, Mike Gonnerman, Brian Porzak, Roger Hansen, Ted Atkinson, Allen Zern, Bob Blake, Doug Leitch and Hank Amon. In addition to the usual class matters having to do with money and projects, the committee began planning in earnest our 40th reunion next June in Hanover. The reunion will be on the Hanover Plain from June 13-16 next summer. A highlight will be a musical production after dinner on Wednesday, June 15. Brian Porzak and Jim Griffiths are organizing it. Volunteers from the class will be solicited, not only for acting and singing but also for stage production and lighting. Reunion co-chairs Roger Hansen and Pete Frederick will be organizing committees of volunteers to handle the many facets of a Dartmouth reunion. Start making plans now to attend.
Another reunion in the more immediate future is the Hanover mini, to be held this year from Friday, October 15, to Sunday, October 17. Since this is earlier than in recent years, foliage should be close to peak. That also means that places to stay will be at a premium, so make plans and reservations early. Pierces Inn will again be the focal point. The earlier date also means that the minireunion will not coincide with Homecoming Weekend (which is the last weekend in October). We hope the earlier date will attract more classmates and give us better weather conditions than we've had the past few years.
A recent mini was held in early May at the Allenberry Resort and Playhouse near Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Theweekend was attended by Steve and Donna Farrow, Mike and Yvonne Divak, Hank Amon, Pete and Marsha Frederick Jim and Debby Griffiths, Mike and Jeannine Orr and yours truly. We toured the Gettysburg battlefield all day Saturday, having had a wonderful tour guide at our disposal, then returned to the Allenberry for drinks, dinner, a live stage show (Smokey Joe's Cafe, featuring music from "our" era) and a long night of catching up. Great times!
Classmate Doug Leitch now works at the College as one of five associate directors of gift planning. He travels extensively around the United States in his new capacity. Roger Hansen and Larry Duffy both told me of imminent plans to retire from their respective medical and teaching professions in order to enjoy more family and leisure time.
Some always-unfortunate deaths in the class family. Stu Lieber died in the spring; details to follow. Dick Durrances dad, a world-class championship skier in the early 1940s and one of the early developers of Aspen, passed on. There was a nice piece about him in the "Scorecard" section of the June 28 edition of Sports Illustrated. Be sure to go to our class Web site for class news, reunion news and other interesting reports.
