Nat Merrill got kudos in TheNew Yorker magazines issue of March 28 for his Met production of Der Rosenkavalier. He has commuted between New York's Met and Central City, Colorado, Opera Festival for many years. Obviously he hasn't lost his artistic touch. Olympic skier Colin Stewart had to hangup his skis three years ago when osteoporosis-weakened bones in his leg snapped. He had maintained an active ski life prior to then at Vail, Colorado, while pursuing his vocation as an architect and designing manystructures there. We recall him and Sonny Drury as class skiing legends during our time on campus. He is presently in an assisted living facility in Englewood, Colorado. John Fenno is still on the slopes as ski patrol. Sam Katz acknowledged last issue's DAM mention with an e-mail recalling his 1945 days in San Diego as a Navy corpsman at the hospital here. A favorite liberty pastime was sipping beer on the veranda of the Hotel Del Coronado, a rare privilege for a "white hat" in those days. I visited my parents when they were on vacation there in early 1946 and the management was not happy with a seaman in what was generally considered as officers country.

Our intrepid ex-treasurer Gil Shattuck is Campaigning again for the New Hampshire legislalture to fill a seat recently vacated. He claims that he was drafted by his party and should at least have name recognition after two previous tries. His campaign manager is an attractive New England College coed in the political science program there and he feels like he has a good shot at it this time. Sissy is looking forward to getting him out from underfoot and is most supportive of his run for the $100 a year job. It may be that he is just hedging his Social Security check. He is ready to improve social services and keep taxes down. Stay tuned.

Next mini-reunion is September 29 to October 1. Be there!
