Don't know if you noticed it, but Sonny Drury, in his August column, generously added $600K to our already record-breaking 50th Reunion class gift. When we thanked him for his help, he modestly said that in this world of a billion here and a billion there, this was just a pittance. No word yet on whether the College has sent him a statement.
Marc Wyse is still active running the Cleveland-headquartered ad agency he founded 35 years ago. His clients include Smuckers, Office Depot, Apple Restaurants, and a number of other prestige accounts. He was wounded and discharged from the service. arriving on campus early in 1945. Family problems took him back to Cleveland in 1946, and he got his degree at Case Western Reserve. He was sports editor of The Dartmouth while on campus and helped to reopen Pi Lambda Phi. Most of his Dartmouth acquaintances are '49s, but he welcomed a call. We caught Shelley and Jack Jansing at their Hobe Sound, Fla., home about Labor Day between their Harbor Springs, Mich., summer camp and their youngest son's wedding. Jack retired from Bache & Cos in 1974 and started, in 1975, Independent Election Corp., an automated system of handling proxy materials for brokerage houses. This grew into a sizeable able enterprise and was sold to ADP a few years ago. He still does some director duties but is otherwise retired. They recently cruised the Greek Isles with Shelley's cousin, George Bush, and company on a huge private yacht. The president was in their bridal party 40 years ago. Jack was close to RussCarlson and Earl Chambers and may show up at a mini-reunion one of these days. They have three children and two grandchildren.
Ann and Marty Ullman missed the 50th because she was convalescing from heart surgery but planned to make the Dartmouth Night—Yale game—mini-reunion in October. They moved up to Santa Rosa, Calif., eight years ago after he retired from the family plastics business in Los Angeles. They've been traveling extensively and have booked a Mississippi River cruise this winter. He presides over a lawn bowling club and a homeowners association.
At reunion we asked Roger "Zilch" Zorn how he got that moniker. He admitted to pitching several shutouts for his school team during his senior year. The other Worcester Academy classmates in our class brought the nickname with them, and it stuck. Rog and M.H. are comfortably settled in Pinehurst , N.C.
Next class event is the Winter Ski Extravaganza at the Skiway in late January or early February. Join classmates in reliving those hours on the slopes when you should have been studying. They make snow when nature doesn't provide enough.
Check with Bill Scott for the details. Our holiday greetings to you all from sunny San Diego. Give us a call if you are passing through or even if you aren't.
