Last Saturday Barb and I journeyed to New Haven expecting to see our Indians enthusiastically scalp the Yalies. In fact, until the end of the first half, it looked as if our greatest expectations would be realized. However, by the end of the game, Yale s defense had improved immeasurably, and it turned out to be quite a battle. Dartmouth won — 22 to 14. Among the '48's that we spotted in the mobs were John and Pat Hatheway, Boboand Barbara Russell, Dirk Kuzmier and date,Eric and Alice Swanson, Joe and Jean Hickman, Dave and Ginny Packard, Tom andMary Jane Baldwin.
I was very happy to hear that Mort Smith, whom we enjoyed seeing with Nancy at reunion, just became an associate in the Society of Actuaries which carries considerable prestige in the field. Mort has worked for the Home Life Insurance Company since shortly after graduation. He and Nancy with David, age seven and Elizabeth, age five, are living in Plainfield, N. J.
Our old European representative RemDrury is at it again! If any of you happened to see (and I'm sure you haven't) an article entitled "A Reluctant Husband" in a magazine called American Abroad by one Remington Drew., it is our own Sonny. It seems Joan dragged him to a music festival in Spoleto featuring Gian-Carlo Menotti, and he wrote the article in an effort to warn others. Sonny is crude oil representative for Gulf Oil. He and Joan live in Rome and although he does a great deal of traveling around Europe he manages to find time for skiing and expects to play in the International Tennis Tournament in Rome.
Another of our classmates achieving fame in tennis is Lany Brisbin. Lany and Joan played in a big tournament in Washington, D. C., this fall where Lany met our current national champion, Vic Seixas. I hear from very reliable sources (not Lany) that he played a terrific match and almost pulled the upset of the year. He and Joan have been finalists in the West Virginia State Mixed Doubles tournament for the past few years. Lany also coaches the tennis team of Marshall College, located in Huntington, W. Va., his hometown, when he's not selling Royal Crown or playing tennis himself. As I've given you the tennis news in December, it will undoubtedly be the skiing news in June.
Ginny, Dave Packard's wife reports that he holds the record for long recoveries from Reunion. Dave is just getting back on his feet again. It seems that Dave was trying, in the wee hours, to pop a paper cup by stepping on it and somehow pulled a few ligaments in his foot. Believe it or not! Dave, who is doing very well as an institutional municipal bond salesman for Tucker, Anthony and R. L. Day is just completing plans for a new house.

Malcolm Simpson is so busy that his wife, Betty, daughter, Prue, and son, Matthew see little of him these days. Malcolm is teaching mathematics in East Orange, N. J., High School. He received a Master's degree in 1956 at the University of Delaware and also played basketball in Pennsylvania's Eastern Pro League. At present Malcolm is halfway through his Ph.D. but because of his work in the church and the Masonic Lodge, doesn't have time for basketball. During the summer he is head supervisor of the largest playground in East Orange and also manages to go fishing occasionally.
So that his family could enjoy the atmosphere of a collegiate town as he did in Hanover, Joe and Deidre Bannon moved from Westchester to Princeton, N. J. Joe is working for Carl Byoir Associates, a public relations firm and presently is an account executive, handling a trade association representing the Ceramic Industry. Joe also has literary talents as he wrote some detective stories which were published in Mexico. The Bannon's new address is 81 Harriet Drive, Princeton.

That's all the news for this month. See you next month.
Now that Santa Claus knows where to find all the wandering '48's I hope he treats you all very well. Barb and I want to wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season and a Joyous New Year. See you all in '59.
