A condensed thank you: "Your contribution to the athletic sponsor program helped make possible the campus recruiting trip of Leigh Clarkson of Perris, California, who is a Softball catcher. This talented prospect was able to gain a first-hand view of the 'Dartmouth experience.' " Leigh was admitted as an early-decision candidate and joins the Dartmouth family with the class of 2010.I also had nice letters from her and her coach-to-be thanking us. You probably remember that the class has been donating $500 a year.
Don Allen reports, "I still drive my 1990 Buick Century, the oldest car in our Ferris Hills garage. The annual rent is more than it's worth, to say nothing of the insurance! I do volunteer work as a research assistant at our local historical society. Like Don Marcus my hearing is very poor—a hearing aid in each ear. I still play the piano with two fingers, accompanying myself to several old favorite songs: a Texas cowboy song (in honor of my Dallas days), "Danny Boy," etc. Have been singing in our Ferris Hills chorus. Once sang with the Dallas Male Chorus and the Mendelssohn Club of Albany, New York. During the summer of 1936 had a voice scholarship with M. Price Boone of the Metropolitan Opera House Studios in New York. Lived at Columbia University and took two courses in addition to the voice lessons. Price Boone was the soloist at our 1942 wedding. He had sung the "Duke" in Rigoletto at La Scala in Milan.
