Lets say you are in San Francisco, and want to watch the sun set over the ocean while you dine. Choices are limited. You could go to the Cliff House, but you'd have to wait in line with busloads of tourists anxious to pay outrageous prices for mediocre food. Locals head for the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant, perched on the second floor of an historic colonnaded building famous for its 30s-era WPA murals, mosaics and woodcarvings on the ground floor. In this friendly bistro known throughout San Francisco for its fine handcrafted brews, a panoramic view of the ocean and live jazz comes with every seat. Suppose you missed the sunset or want a more sophisticated menu and intimate atmosphere. Park at the Beach Chalet, stop for a moment in the lobby to admire the murals, and then continue out the back door. You will magically step into the sleek, elegant Park Chalet, where cocktail in hand you can warm yourself by the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace before dining. With its vaulted glass ceiling and wide open doors, the outside garden is brought in to you. Now suppose that, sure, you would love to eat at this restaurant, but have small ones in tow who threaten to make your dining experience, as well as those around you, a living hell. Keep walking through Park Chalet and out the sliding glass doors, stopping by the bar to grab a crisp hoppy IPA to take outside with you. Double-task by leaving your home jug with the bartender for replenishment while you eat. Pick a cluster of Adirondack chairs on the expansive, lush green lawn. In this bucolic setting, nestled within the Golden Gate Park, you can enjoy fine food and top-notch microbrews al fresco while your kids run on the grass or push their Tonka trucks on the trail. Kudos to Timon Malloy, who, as a major partner in the Beach Chalet and the Park Chalet, worked to develop this trio of dining options.Timon runs his family's 100-year-old commercial real estate business, and lives in N.Y.C. with his wife,Lori, and 18-month-old twins Jacob Arthur and Tess Adina. Recently he has been working on an urban renewal project in Norwalk, Connecti-Cut. Keep up the good work!
Father Jim Nadeau's current challenge is to merge seven churches and four parishes on the Maine/Canadian border into one. He recently became a Knight of the Holy Order of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, in the company of crowned heads of Europe, cardinals and bishops. The order was founded in 1099, and is the only order of chivalry under the protection of the Vatican. While in Paris reviewing French he ran into Mark D'Agostino, who came down from Belgium, and Jim reports that Mark and his lovely wife, Adele, have two boys, Dominic and Derek. Gary Wilson reports: "I left my position as VP of ATK Mission Research Space and Sensors Sector (defense contractor) to join David Moore' 83 at his newly formed company Interconnect Solutions Group Inc. We will provide sales representation for Glenair products (electrical connector accessories manufacturer) in the southern California region and plan to expand into engineering services in the near future."
