This is a final reminder for all MALS alumni to mail their 2006 dues payment to the MALS office. You should all have received both a letter and an e-mail message asking for the $35 annual membership fee. If you did not receive these requests, please call the MALS office at (603) 646-3592 to update your contact information.
MALS alumni should also be aware of two upcoming events. On Sunday, June 10, the champagne reception for the 2007 MALS Graduates will be held in the Faculty Lounge at the Hopkins Center. The event will begin immediately after the Commencement exercises. All MALS faculty and alumni are invited to meet our new alumni and celebrate their accomplishments.
The MALS Alumni Association annual meeting and luncheon will be held on Wednesday, July 11, in the Hayward Lounge at the Hanover Inn. Lunch will be served at noon, and a reservation with the MALS office is necessary. For the past several years our luncheon speakers have been from the world of the arts. This year, with the ongoing war in Iraq and the instability of the international situation, we are fortunate to be able to feature Ambassador Ken Yalowitz. He is director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth. Ambassador Yalowitz holds a Russian Institute certificate, M.A. and master of philosophy degree from Columbia University. He served as U.S ambassador to the Republic of Belarus from 1994 to 1997 and to Georgia from 1998 to 2001. He retired from the U.S. Department of State in 2001, after 36 years as a career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service and is the recipient of the Ambassador Robert Frasure Award for peacemaking and conflict resolution. All MALS alumni, current students and faculty are invited to attend.
The Arts and Sciences Graduate Alumni Association of Dartmouth (ASGAAD) and the MALS Alumni Association held their annual Celebration of Poetry on February 10, during the Winter Carnival weekend. Nancy Silliman '95 (MALS'06) and Judy Chypre (MALS'99) were among the readers. Judy also did much of the work to coordinate the afternoon. We would like to have another poetry reading sometime in June. If you would like to participate in this, please give me a call.
