It is with sadness and regret that I advise that Em Day has resigned as president of our class because of health reasons. But what a fine job he did as president since he took over from Jack Tobin—what was it, about 10 years ago. We wish Em well, to keep healthy and to thank him for what he has done for our class.
During early June Stan Smoyer and Mary Engelman have advised that our class has contributed a leading $204,000 to the Dartmouth College Alumni Fund, but the disappointing news was that only 46 percent of the class had contributed. We hope that in the remaining few weeks in June that others will contribute.
We recently received an article about Alfred Cotton 34, Th'3s, and his wife of 70 years, Claire, who are now residents of University Commons, a long-term care facility in Worcester, Massachusetts. Al is a lover: He has given his wife a dozen red roses on every Valentines Day since 1934—that's 73 years of roses. Last October Al moved from an assisted-living facility into University Commons, the UMass Memorial Medical Center Nursing Home. Two months later, after University Commons renovated a room to accommodate them both, Claire joined her husband. Congratulations and good health to you both.
We regret to advise of the deaths of two fine doctors, Jim Keeley and John Lyle, as well as JohnMurphy, a dynamic businessman. Our sympathies to their families.
