Ted Germanun, retired army lieutenant colonel, living in Huntsville, Ala., celebrated his 85 th birthday on Sept. 23 rd. He reports his health excellent, thanks to regular workouts at the health and fitness center of the local hospital, and the super-good care of his wife, Maggie, a nurse clinical specialist who teaches at the school of nursing at the University in Huntsville. Ted doesn't know of any Dartmouth alumni in his area and doubts if there are more than a handful in the entire state. But for the record be it known that there are ample German descendants over a lot of the world—four daughters and a son, 15 grandchildren—some American, some French, some Spanish, plus four grandchildren.

We will be celebrating our family day at the Yale game, tailgating, then the game, and then dinner at our oldest daughter's home in Trumbull, Conn. There will be 23 of us in all, some not at the game, but all there for dinner. Shorty Thomas tells me that he will be there to see the Green trounce Yale—we usually see him in the stands.

Shorty has returned to Cheshire High School, his 18th year as a teacher there. "Apple Ed" and Jackie Marceau, from South Burlington, Vt., tell us that they are looking forward to our mini-reunion, and as usual will bring along some apple samples, barring another harmful storm. They expect to have a good crop this year. Ed left in late August to join their oldest daughter Suzanne, her husband Dave, and two grandsons for a five-day rafting trip on the Salmon River in Idaho. Their youngest daughter, Marcy '85, has opened a bed and breakfast in Sharon, Vt., The Inn at Idlewood, on Route 132.

Stan Smoyer reports that he and his new bride, Marge, will be spending more time in Florida this winter, but unfortunately, due to the coincidence of a trip through Italy that they had planned, they will miss our fall mini-reunion.
