Dave Hughes was awarded the Gulfstream Award for the Aerospace Journalist of the Year for 2008 in July by the World Leadership Forum and the Royal Aeronautical Society. He also took the Rock well Collins Award for best avionic submission ("Have Radar, Will Travel"). The awards competition takes place in conjunction with either the Farnborough Air Show or the Paris Air Show in alternating years. Dave is a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel with 2,300 hours logged piloting heavy jets (the C-5 and the C-141). He has been writing for 21 years for Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine, where he is senior editor of the Washington, D.C., bureau.
