Another holiday season has come and gone. I hope you enjoyed the holidays, and I thank all of you who were kind to remember me with cards. I have a little business to pass on to you. Our dues are paid through the Ledyard Bank in Hanover. I have discovered that 10 of you have paid your dues twice. The class of '46 needs the money, but we don't want anyone paying twice. I will write to those I "discovered" and you can check your records. Tell me I'm correct and I'll reimburse you. Enough for business. I want to dedicate this column to Alden "Whitey" Burnham, who died November 18, 2008. I have written about Whitey before but because of his outstanding record at Dartmouth and in the Hanover area this column is for him. He was an adopted member of our class. For years he was our man in Hanover, setting up mini-reunions, speaking at our class meetings and doing countless other things for the class. He coached three sports for the College: soccer, lacrosse and wrestling. After ending his coaching career he served as associate director of athletics for the College. He was inducted into the National Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame and the Hall of Fame at Springfield College and Dartmouth. Dartmouth's soccer facility bears his name. While doing all he did for the College he found time for numerous civic positions, including president of the Hanover Country Club and the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Joanne, and his son and daughter.
The following classmates have died: Alan E. Schlosser on January 2,2006; Donald A. Smith on October 28,2008; Thomas Montgomery on December 20, 2008; and Walter G. Koontz on November 29,2008. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families.
