By the time that this article hits the newsstands our class’ 70th birthday party weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona, will be history. Those who attended will have had a great time and applause kudos will have been given to Len DiSavino and his outstanding committee, consisting of Jim Nova, John King, Jeff Conn and Jay Torok.

The Class of 1961 Legacy continues to gain traction. The new 2009 Live at the Hop book once again gave premier space and kudos to the class of 1961 in its “thank you to donors” section, along with only six other major donors, including the National Endowment of the Arts. Thank-yous are due to David Birney, Oscar Arslanian, Pete Bleyler, along with the many classmates who promoted the concept, worked hard to implement it and contributed the donations required to make the project viable and a success.

Bob Conn just keeps rolling along, even as many of his classmates move toward retirement. His consulting practice, Robert Conn Associates LLC, is doing well and Bob has recently completed and passed the examination for accreditation in public relations, entitling him to use the APR professional designation. Congratulations to Bob, you are a youthful model to all of your classmates.

A new Dartmouth project is under way to honor the school and its alumni for having played such an important role in the development and growth of skiing in the Untied States. The project is being headed by Steve Water-house ’65 and John Walters ’62. Steve was the author of Dartmouth Dedicated Alumni: Fifty Years of Alumni Awards, 1954-2004, which included a brief sketch of important Dartmouth alumni (including several from our class) and a history of the College. The goal of this new project is to produce both a book and a documentary film on the contribution of Dartmouth alumni, family and staff to the now very significant industry of skiing that is unmatched by any other U.S. college or probably any institution throughout the world. A named contributor to the forthcoming book is designated to be our own Art Kelton. Steve and John have begun and will continue to solicit contributions to support this enormous project; try to help out with whatever you can afford. It’s going to be a great project!

At least one classmate, Ivar Jozus, reads our class column. A few issues ago I congratulated Dick Marrone as being the classmate who traveled the longest distance (from Sweden) to attend our fall mini-reunion. Well, I was clearly wrong. The award goes to Tom Conger, who ventured to Hanover from the beaches of Hawaii. Even T.C. didn’t make me aware of the error. It seems that neither of us took geography at Dartmouth, or we learned little from the course!
