First off, apologies for the large gaping hole where our notes should have been in the most recent Alumni Magazine. I have no excuse and will try to dig myself out of the doghouse with some extensive notes in this (my penultimate) column!
Congratulations to the following newly married couples (or not so newly married, since there is a huge delay in the Notes making it to the published magazine): Kane Russell & Ally Basak were married in August; Megan Fontanella and Jayson Remmelts were married in Hanover in August with Clare Gupta, Laura Delaney, Carly O’Connell, Sean Oh, Matthew Burgess, Chris Amery and Snowden Wright taking part in the wedding. Charley Light and Amy Mulligan (Mount Holyoke ’04) were married in Brookfield, Massachusetts, in October with Evan Lapinsky, David Hoftiezer, Julian Saltman and Jon Webster serving in the wedding party. Tin Ha-Ngoc and Lisa Schmidt were married in Brattleboro, Vermont, in August.
On to engagements: Eleanor Pessin and Ben Correa were engaged in November and are planning an August wedding in Vermont. Tate LeFevre and Chris Plehal were engaged in February and are planning a late fall wedding before they move to the South Pacific, where Tate will be doing her dissertation fieldwork for a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology at NYU.
Congratulations as well to Gaurav Singhania, who had a son in August!
Here are some additional updates that came through in the wedding announcements: Tin Ha-Ngoc is living in Denver and attending medical school while Lisa Schmidt teaches in the Denver area. Evan Lapinsky is also in med school at UVA, David Hoftiezer is at law school at UC Davis, Jon Webster is at Stanford Med School, Abiel Acosta is working for Lincoln Financial and Dan and Suzanne (Larimore) Wahl are living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he is working on an M.D./Ph.D. and she is working as an attorney. Dave Philips is working on a Ph.D. in engineering at Stanford, Thomas Sexton is at Stanford Business School and Margaret Wilkerson is wrapping up law school at UC Berkeley.
In other news Casey Cramer signed a two-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in September. Daren Simkin and his brother co-authored a book called The Traveler that was released around Thanksgiving. Alexis Hawley, who is a third-year law student at Washington and Lee University School of Law, has been included in the 2009 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She was chosen based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. Milton Ochieng and his brother Fred spoke at the ONE Power 100 Summit in Washington, D.C., on February 7 about their film, Sons of Lwala. Finally, Aimee Barnes reports that she ran into Deirdre Parsons, Gigi Modrich and Donald Jolly while attending inauguration festivities in Washington, D.C., in January.
As a reminder, our fifth reunion is just a few months away: The dates are June 19-21. I look forward to seeing you all there! And please send updates!
