The outfield settles into a battle between four candidates, which are Capt. Deak Mack and the freshman trio of last year. The three former freshmen are Jake Edwards, Smith O'Brien and Hafey Arthur, with Edwards standing out from the rest as a really fine ball player who would make any college team in the country. Arthur made the Princeton trip, but O'Brien will run him a fast race for the third outfield position.
So that is just a vest pocket glimpse of the baseball situation. Elsewhere is appended the box score of the first game, and if the linotyper does not have fits over the small type, I intend to run the Eastern Intercollegiate League box scores as an added feature.
There are several players on the squad who are on the near-varsity team, and I want to mention several for the simple reason that they are liable to be stars before this edition gets out on the street. The catching department is reinforced by John Foley, Sonny Foley and Ray Hulsart. Sonny was rated as one of the regulars until a broken finger in practice put him on the shelf, but he will be back in a couple of weeks.
