THROUGH A LAPSE OF MEMORY on my part until it was too late I neglected to report last month on two fine events. First and foremost on February 16 we had the finest Annual Banquet in the history of the club here with President Hopkins as our guest and principle speaker. Needless to say his visit and talk here were most inspiring. Another guest at this banquet was our second oldest living alumnus Dr. Francis Hobart Herrick '81, Prof. Emeritus of Biology of Western Reserve University, the man of great lobster and eagle fame, who gave us an interesting talk on past, present and future hope and outlook on life.
March 2 gave us the honor of Dean E. Gordon Bill's presence and a most enjoyable week-end of happenings in Hanover together with some expert lessons in bridge as it is and should be played by such an expert as the Dean.
March 30 was again the scene of another Dartmouth splurge here in Cleveland when we had our Annual Scholarship Benefit Dance at the University Club. Under the capable management of Jack Gilchrist Jr. '35 and the loyal support of both undergrads and alumni and their friends, this was a greatly enjoyed and highly profitable evening.
Friday, April 5 saw the advent of our First Annual Eleazar Wheelock Stag Party at one of the local breweries here. This party is primarily run for the purpose of interesting and initiating the undergrads and younger alumni in the ways and means of our local club. A dutch lunch and beer or perhaps I should say beer and dutch lunch, together with a swell evening -of song and cheer was the piece de resistance under a committee of Bud Petrequin '25, Sandy Mills '38 and John Davenport '39.
Two of our local group here who have been stanch pillars in the club, have left us the past month to take up the cause of Dartmouth in other cities, and incidentally to more lucrative positions. They are Hart D. Gilchrist '31 who went to Chicago and Clark Denney '30 who went to New York City. We here will miss them and wish them the best of luck in their new fields and to the Secretaries of these two clubs I can only say you are missing a fine bet if you don't snag them at once and start them off for you, where they left off with us.
