As we look into the Crystal Ball we see that the following men, whose birthdays fall in April, were born under the sign of Aries, the Ram, Richardson and Richmond, while Voorhees and Holway were born under the sign of Taurus, the Bull. They are hereby entitled to whatever benefits may accrue to them as a result of this distinction and to the hearty congratulations of all of the other members of our Class.
Rufe Sisson, our dapper class chairman, who spends the winter months at Ormand Beach, Fla. invited Lize Wheelock and your secretary and our wives to join him with Dorie and a guest for lunch and a mini-reunion at the Holiday Inn in Kissimmee, Fla., on February 5. Lize, who was spending a few months in Anna Maria, Fla., had a three-hour drive to reach the rendezvous but, thanks to Florida's good roadways, found the task not too difficult.
On February 18 Lize and Polly joined with your secretary and Eleanor to drive down to Lido Beach in Sarasota where we all attended the luncheon meeting of the Sarasota Dartmouth Club.
Football Coach Jake Crouthamel, the guest speaker, gave us an interesting after dinner talk in which he described some of the disappointments of the past season and discussed the future prospects of the football team.
The following excerpts are from a letter written by Si Leach '31 to Cliff Jordan. "This concerns a recent gift of $100.00 by Mrs. G. A. Boggs of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in memory of her husband George '14. It was routed through the Dartmouth College Canadian Foundation. Last spring, she omitted to send in her regular contribution which would have been credited to the 1974 Alumni Fund. When she realized her oversight she sent it along in September but it was too late for credit to the Class, and she continued her letter by saying, "I am keeping well and busy and am enjoying the monthly arrival of the Alumni Magazine and the reports from my Dartmouth granddaughter, who is in the class of 1976 and is a most enthusiastic Dartmouth fan!" A thumbnail sketch of the young lady's activities follows:
During the summer of 1971 Catharine Barbara Joyce lived in Mindanao, Philippines, with a Moslem family as a member of the American Field Service Americans Abroad program.
Graduated from Wellesley High School in 1972.
Freshman year: Dartmouth Glee Club Dance group.
Sophomore year; Interdormitory Council representative. Winter term: lived with Mexican family in Mexico and attended the Museum School of the University of Mexico in Mexico City.
Junior year: History Major. Co-chairman of Women of Dartmouth working for recreational and lounge facilities for women.
Senior year: Studying history and drama in England. Would like to get a teaching internship on an Indian reservation.
In the meantime she has had a pleasant, lucrative, part-time job since freshman year as a bar-maid in the Tavern Room of the Hanover Inn.
With deep regret we have just received word of the passing of Charles B. McLaughlin on February 14 in Manchester, N.H. Further details will be found in the obituary column but we have no record of any family survivors.
The report comes a little late but you may be interested in learning that the Class of 1914 received the Roger C. Wilde '21 Reunion Record award for having established a new record for its reunion year.
Writing to Lize, Doc Kingsford said, "Here's my five bucks for class dues. It seems to me that the amount is very small in return for all that we receive.
"I keep trying to find someone who can give me some information about a picture which was taken by a man who had a photo studio upstairs in the block next to the C&G House: I think his name was Knight. The picture shows a big scoot passing Wilson Hall, heading toward Etna, loaded with one boxcar full of groceries and drawn by three yoke of oxen. I had a copy of this picture but it was destroyed when my house burned. I would appreciate any help I can get in my quest."
