ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 29, the Annual Dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia was held at the University Club. The attendance of 126 men was the largest in the history of any annual dinner of the Association, and the men who attended experienced one of the most enjoyable evenings that the Association has ever sponsored, with Dean Neidlinger '23, Ross McKenney and Sumner Emerson '17, as the speakers.
As of February 29, the rolls of the Association contained 398 names which included 31 added during the year, and 14 removed. For this district the Class of 1944 has 46 applications. This portion of the business part of the meeting was followed by annual election. The following men were elected for the year 1940-41. President, Donald D. Rogers '20; Vice President, Richard R. Frame '28; Secretary, Henry B. King Jr. '33; Treasurer, Wm. W. McClarrin Jr. '35; Executive Committee, DeLong H. Monahan '24, to serve three years' succeeding Henry B. King Jr.
As a resume of the year, the Entertainment Committee drew the attention of the Dartmouth men present and their guests to the following highlights: Doc Sewall's annual party in May at the Cohansick Country Club, Bridgeton, New Jersey; the Annual Cornell-Dartmouth Golf Tournament at the Overbrook Country Club in July, with Dartmouth as the winning team; Hugh Kenworthy's party in September, with golf at the Coatesville Country Club, followed by buffet supper at his home; the Annual Christmas Holiday Smoker on December 28, at which 140 undergraduates, prospective freshmen and their fathers, alumni, and Coach Cowles and the basketball team were present.
Very definite plans have already been laid by the new administration for arousing more interest in the Philadelphia area regarding Dartmouth and Dartmouth affairs, particularly concerning the assimilation into the Dartmouth Alumni Association of younger men recently graduated from college.
Through the columns of the MAGAZINE may we extend a cordial invitation to any Dartmouth men in Philadelphia either temporarily or permanently to attend the weekly luncheons held at the Yale Club on the Bth floor of the University Club Building, 16th and Locust Streets, on Tuesday, at 12:15.
