The golf team prepared for its spring trip by slamming balls into a netting at one end of the baseball cage. Anyone who plays golf knows that the game has a lot more to it than merely socking the ball. Yet that is all the preparation that the linksmen had before meeting Georgetown twice and Navy once. But despite any real practice, the golfers distinguished themselves and indicated that they will give anyone trouble later this season.
The first match with Georgetown ended with Dartmouth on the short end of a hVrZVz score. But the following day, Coach Tommy Keane's boys walloped the Hoyas by a 7-2 margin. Moving over to Navy, the team fell before the Middies, 5-2, but only after the closest kind of a match. Two individual duels were lost on the 18th hole and another went to Navy on the 19th. Both coach and team were agreeably surprised by this good showing against two strong teams.
Captain of the golfers this season is Bill Tarlow '5O, of Brockton, Mass. He leads a group of four veterans and two good sophomores. Henry Exall, Tom McMahon, Scott Probasco and Bob Hebard are the experienced campaigners and Ed Eichler and Emerson (Duke) Carey are the talented sophomore members of the team.
