By now you aire probably all aware that JimLaughton, class secretary, has been called back into the Service and, at the time of this writing, we are without a secretary. However, we hope to have this situation remedied before the next issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

It seems like old times to be writing a column for the class but before we start on any of the news, I would like to just ask each one of you to be on the watch for some material which we are going to put out within the next 30 days regarding the Class Memorial Fund. You probably have read enough about this in the MAGAZINE to have a vague idea of what it is all about. However, the details of it you are going to get and, when you do, will you read it with care and thought? We don't have a lot of millionaires in the Class of '31, nor do we have a lot of philanthropists. If we did, our job would probably be a lot easier, but especially would the College's be a lot easier.

However, like every other institution, Dartmouth ollege faces the problem of increasing costs with fewer and fewer people in a position to leave it large endowments. Hence the Class Fund whereby each one of us, through contributions between now and the time of our Twenty-Fifth reunion, can build up a fund which will serve as an endowment fund for the College. This will be held in the name of the Class of '31 but will serve to fulfill a very serious need of the College. As I have stated, you will get more on this later, and please read it when you get it.

I think this is a good spot to tell RedRolfe from all the class that in our books he is the "Manager of the Year." He did a wonderful job and Red, here's our tribute to you from the class for carrying the Tigers into second place.

Personally, I have seen quite a few of the gang since I was last reporting for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. Frank Hodson doing a real job with the Alumni Fund and also serving as president of Eppens-Smith Company. DanDenham, Bob Fredericks and Ken Fraser having a little '31 luncheon at the Dartmouth Club.

Saw Dick Fisher and Midge and their two girls while we were in Boston last summer. All of them looked wonderful. Also ran into Zora and Red Gristede on this same trip, with Red complaining only because his golf wasn't consistently about 80. My heart bleeds for him. I have trouble getting mine under 100.

Doug Morris living in Scarsdale and besides his advertising activities, running a class in Sunday School, coaching baseball and generally helping to run the town of Scarsdale. Charlie Schneider driving a gorgeous creamcolored Packard convertible and still the leading Thespian in our village. Charlie's acoustical construction business going well but full of problems.

'3l has contributed more than its share to the educational world. A recent roster of Dartmouth men in education lists Wes Brockway, Head of the Music Department, Weaver High School, Hartford, Conn.; Ed Elmer, Director of Guidance, Burns Junior High School, Hartford, Conn.; Eb Hutton, Headmaster, Milford, N. H.; Howie Mason, Superintendent, Hanover; Ted Johnson, Submaster, Portland High, Me.; Major Gray Magee, Secretary-Treasurer, Western Military Academy, Alton, Ill.; ArtO'Brien, Vice-Principal, Framingham High, Mass.; Ed Picken, Athletic Director, Troy, N. Y.; Ed Pitkin, Principal, Loudonville School, Loudonville, N. Y.; Mai Pratt, Teacher, Rockland, Mass.; Ray Robinson, Bristol High, Conn.; Nick Rogers, Science Teacher, Loomis School, Windsor, Conn.; Ken Sampson, member of School Committee, Brockton, Mass.; and George Tarr, Peekskill Military School, Peekskill, N. Y.

Henry Richmond has returned from Europe with Frances and the two youngsters, full of enthusiasm and pictures. Henry probably gets around as much as anybody in our class, so don't be surprised if you get a call from him someday for lunch.
