Before we turn to any other subject, 1 want to be sure that Dune Farr gets a class vote of thanks for the swell job he has done for several years as Class Agent. As we ail know, Dartmouth is dependent on the success of the Class Agents, and Dune lias been extremely unselfish with his time and efforts to make our own class program successful. Jock Vince?is has succeeded Dune, and doubtless, if necessary, can call on the resources of the American Bankers Association. I believe Jock has four daughters, but when I called his office tod?y to confirm it, his secretary very sweetly advised me that he was out in the country today and probably wouldn't be in tomorrow either.
It seems that one by one some of our more widely travelled classmates are returning to the United States. A recent letter from Hankand Mary Merrill confirms the plans they had last summer at reunion of returning to the States this spring for good, after 10 years with Panagra in Lima, Peru. Hank has acquired a farm of several hundred acres in one of northern Vermont's most picturesque valleys and the Merrills, with Dougie, Bobby and Mary Lee, will make their home up there. Thanks to the thoughtfulness of Jack Field senior, we have notice that Jack and his wife, with Barbara Jane aged four and Patricia Ann, born Oct. 30, 1948, have returned after four years in Mexico City. Jack had an engineering job in Mexico, and is now working for the plastics division of General Electric in Decatur, 111. Now, if we could just get some more fathers to write, maybe we'd make some progress on news.
Who's seen Who: Don Wheat on, on a trip south, stopped off to see Jack Cat heart and his family in Richmond, Va. Jack has two little girls, works for Dupont as supervisor of planning in their Richmond plant and spends all the time he can in his wood working shop. Some dope on Jim Corner comes via Bob Schill. Jim really took action on the housing situation, organized a cooperative of other Dupont chemists in Wilmington and together they bought and cleared some land, did the surveying and built their own homes, almost entirely without any outside professional help. On a trip to Chicago last fall Roy White spent some time with Jack Whipp in Hudson, Ohio. The "same old Jack" is doing sales promotion work for a manufacturer of printing equipmerit and has one boy. Also from Roy, JimGarnett is operating a chain of dept stores with his father in the Chicago area, living in Evanston with his wife and daughter. Hope to have a letter from Jim for next month's column. Roy is now assistant vice president of American Express, works in downtown New York, lives in Fairlawn, N. J. with his wife and two and a half year old daughter. This is a promotion for Roy from his former job of advertising manager. Said he hadn't been to Europe lately but had made a trip to Nassau, which would seem to be just about right for this time of year.
Not many weddings or engagements to announce this month, but there is one. The engagement of Mary Lathrop Rochester to John King Adams was announced in Buffalo on December 14. Miss Rochester is an alumna of Smith College. Since college, Jack attended the University of Buffalo Law School and, after five years in the Navy, is practising law with Moot, Sprague, Marcy and Guilick in Buffalo. Congratulations and Best Wishes!
According to rumor, former members of the Barbary Coast and Green Collegians held a reunion in New York City around Christmastime, which included Lew Joel and Shag Hatch. Strange no one heard them, we never had any trouble in College Hall. The Manchester, N. H. Leader carried
the story in December of the appointment of Stan Brown as national chairman of the Legal Aid Committee of the Junior Bar Conference of the American Bar Association. Stan is a partner in the Manchester law firm of McLane, Davis, Carleton and Graf.
Bill McCarthy has been appointed manager of the packing and cashiering department for Macy's New York effective Feb. 1. Bill was formerly associate manager. I talked with Dave Smith, who lives nearby in Greenwich, and learned he has two boys and is a lawyer with American Broadcasting Cos. in New York City.
I buttonholed Jerry Beatty on the train one evening this week for some news, but really wasn't very successful. Ended up with the suggestion that I buy a copy of Pageant, of which Jerry is Associate Editor, so perhaps I should urge you to go and do likewise.
Recent visitors to the Hanover scene: WaltMagee from New York, Ralph Hill from Burlington, Moreau Brown from Canton, N. Y., and Dr. and Mrs. Max Goldstein and son from West Hartford.
