I can always rely on two of my Eli neighbors to keep me posted on the progress, or lack of it, in the Ivy League athletics, and this morning we covered last night's basketball score of Yale 62—Dartmouth 49. We've had better seasons, and with a faint memory delved into Ancient History a bit tonight, and found that 12 years ago on the same date things were really popping. As guards on one of the smoothest quintets we ever had. Joe Batchelder and BobMacLeod spent the evening working the ball down court to Moose Dudis and Joe Cottone to give Columbia the full treatment, 54 to 48 in the best game of the winter season. In the previous game Yale was taken 34-32 with Captain Moose tying it up in the last minute, and the winning basket from midcourt by Joe Cottone.

On the same night in New Haven Jim Feeley, Wes Coding, Art Larkin, Earle Seeley and June Merriam were winning the Quad league title 4-2. "Harpo" Walsh won the biggest ovation of the evening as a result of his feat of "ragging-the-puck" for a minute and half while most of the Indians were in the Box. Reading about these old games and scores became so interesting little time was left to put anything down on the copy sheets. Frankly, I never knew much about the activities of the Gym team but they were winning too, from Princeton, 32-22. Bob Storrs took the rope climb, ChuckFamum a first in tumbling, and Nap Blandy and Bob Elkins kept the Green in the running with firsts in the side-horse and rings. In Boston "Ace" Bailey's first in the pole vault, the last event of the evening, was enough to give us third in the Quadrangular games in the Garden. Wonder how high "Ace" Bailey could pole-vault now?

The Howie Snyders out in Hanford, Calif., have just added the fourth to their family. He's Howard Glenn Jr. making three Dartmouth potentials and one Carnival guest all in one family. Howie doesn't write too much, but the kids contribute a very cute letter telling us the old man is now principal of the Hanford Union High School in the San Joaquin valley. 1100 youngsters is quite a responsibility. Howie added his greetings to all the members of the class.

Attorney Fred Mowatt Jr. has been recalled to active duty with the Navy and assigned to duty at the School of Naval Justice at Newport, R. I. Fred has been living in Maiden and practicing law with his father in Boston. Never knew the Navy had a school of justice. From the reports received so far not too many of you (us) Reserves have been dragged back by Uncle, but if you get the word let us know, so we won't be sending your mail to some place you ain't.

Jack Vincens has been burning the midnight oil lining up some assistance for the Alumni Fund. If you get a call, lend a hand, the cause is worthy. I was also told in Jack'O Lantern language that it was none of my business how many children a member of the class might have, or how he may spend his time to turn a fast buck. For those of you that don't know, Jack lives in Roslyn Heights, N. Y., has four children and spends his time fixing faucets and raising petunias, and reports a hobby of Irish Whiskey, whatever that means. DonWheaton's boss told me, "he was out of town on bank business," but confidentially his secretary admitted he was out picking up all the back issues of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE from a few delinquents who had not come across with their class dues.

On February 5, Howie Pratt opened practice as a Orthopedic Surgeon in Concord, N. H., and makes his home with wife Dorothy and their three children in nearby Hopkinton. Gets together occasionally with Concord lawyer Bill Greene. Maurice Costin is in Framingham, Mass., with his wife and two children, and well on the way to establishing a surgical practice in the same city. Sees plenty of Dartmouth men, but rarely one from the class.

Jack Treadway sends the best invitation of the year, skiing at Dutch Hill with 6" of new powder. Didn't know New England had it so good this year. Jack lives in Williamstown, Mass., and occupies himself with the dispensing of fine food, drink and lodging for the Treadway Inns. Timothy aged one quarter, is the newest member of the family, making four in all.

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Finck made it back to the Inn in January as did Moreau Brown. BillCarter and family have joined some of the rest of the class in the New Jersey suburbs, locating in the town of Madison.
