Well, the summer is over—during which time it was decided to skip two luncheons, one for July which came on the Glorious Fourth, and the September meeting which was called off due to the fact that a picnic for the sub-freshmen and undergraduates was planned for the Saturday of the same week.

The plans for the picnic September 8 were in the capable hands of Ben Watts '26 who also presided during the short program which followed. Ben had a menu planned which pleased everyone. But he really made things tick when he pursuaded Allan Gottschaldt '18 to make a talk. Allan, who has been close to the College for years, was able to tell everyone things which hit home from all angles. Inasmuch as parents, school advisers, and subfreshmen were present along with alumni, Allan's talk, which was anything but formal, was the high point of the program. Of special interest to the sub-freshmen was a chat by Charlie Aye '53 who gave them some helpful hints and inside information which should be useful in a serious way. Joel Wertheim '54 had a great deal of advice for the neophytes, who were Bill Kofoed, Steve Tarr and Bart Udell. To top off the evening we saw our first showing of "My First Week at Dartmouth" and everyone was loud in applause and approval.

Have just completed the fall roster for the South Florida area and it may be surprising to many throughout the country to know that there are at least 85 Dartmouth men in the area at the present time. Not all of them are active, I am sorry to say, and when we lose a live wire like Bob Pierce '25 we feel it. HOWEVER there are still quite a number of ardent Dartmouth supporters around here and the Club as well as the interests of the College will be kept very much alive in the area.

Plans are in the making for our annual football smoker in November, which in the past has been held in conjunction with the Cornell Alumni Club, a fact which fixes the date as of the 17th of the month, the place as yet not set. Any Dartmouth men visiting in the area, get in touch with the club secretary for the final plans. We have good times and good turnouts so it is only natural to expect this one to be better than ever.
