Although this is the month of weddings, we have very little to report in the nuptial bliss department. If we had another issue this year we'd probably find multi ceremonies, but right now this is it.
John Home Elliott and Ann Moulton of Pasadena, Calif., were married March 8. Jack and Ann, a Smith graduate last June, were in Hanover April 21. They're living in Providence, R. I.
On April 14 Don Ayres wed Miss Elizabeth Spence Wilson in Ridgewood, N. J. Brother Bob, who's working for the Leon J. Barrett Co. in Worcester, was best man. Don's wife is at Wheaton College. He's winning the family bread with the State Mutual Life Assurance Company, also in Worcester.
Missed this item last time, so apologies to Tom Doxsee and Joan Churchell of Syracuse whose engagement was announced March 4. Joan graduated from Katy Gibbs in Boston and is working for the Group Hospital Service in her hometown. Tom's still working for Lumberman's Mutual Casualty Company and soliciting your shekels for the Alumni Fund.
The next guy on the list has been appearing in this column about as often as anyone we know', but this time it's big news for JimmyMyers. He and Katherine "Bunny" Miller of Connecticut College will be hitched around the middle of June in Washington, D. C.
In Englewood, N. J., on April 2, Bernard J. "Nink" Hoy and Miss Estelle Du Bois were betrothed. She's a junior at Rahar's Annex in Northampton.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "Plans are being made for a June wedding by Thetis Weaver and Marshall William Mitchell." The bride-elect is a senior at the school just referred to. Mike has been called into active service with the United States Army.
Inkadental Intelligentz
This looks like it, guys! Bob and NataliePerry welcomed Andrew Nelson Perry into the '50 tepee March 12 in Melrose, Mass. All hail the CLASS BOY OF 1950! His old man got married a week after we'd thrown away our books last June, and since then he's been working for Neisler Mills Company, Inc., in New York and living in Rutherford, N. J. Congrats to all three of you from all the Fifties!
Had a note from Sally Farmer that went as follows: "My husband (Jim Farmer) is buried in his neurology book, but he wanted to let the '50 alumni know that on March 24 James Prentice Farmer Jr. was born ... a prospect for a Dartmouth Phi Delt in another 18 years. Jim Sr. has hopes of being out of school and ready to set up practice by then."
Some of the Tuck U boys are beginning to get serious about this employment situation. Clift Whiteman will be "counting out his money" with Guaranty Trust in Manhattan next year. Another banker prospect is Phil See who's going with Shawmut. Florida Ambassador Dick Echikson and Walt Lindenthal have decided to give Macy's a break. BobbyMcllzuain is going to build trains with the Budd Company in Philly. Hughie Broiver will be available for financial consultation at Harris Trust in the Windy City.
On a recent trip to Jones and Lamson in Springfield, Vt., we saw Bob Burns, who's doing some time study work there. John Dun lap is working for the American Associated Insurance Company in NYC. Sam Roger is a med student at George Washington University.
Across the street at Thayer School, GerrySarno has decided to be a technical salesman with Bethlehem Steel. His roomie Jim Lyons is going to work for J. E. Greiner Co., designers and engineers, in Baltimore. Pete Nottage ought to dig up some dirt for us next summer as the Hawaiian Dredging Company has given him a job.
A little Navy noise sifted into Hanover from Bill Williams who saw Bud McDonald and Tom Green in Japan. Tom's photo officer on the Valley Forge. And after June 17 several of us will be distributing calling cards with "Ensign, USN" on them; Gene Ulrich, BabeBoyce, Ben Johnson and Andy Wilde are among those who will wear the blue soon. Wes Field will get a commission, too, but his is in the Marines. Semper Fi, buddy.
Bob Woody has been awarded a scholarship for the summer session at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. He's one of five winners in a nationwide competition. Bob has been studying art in Colorado Springs this year and was represented in the students' exhibition at the Center in April.
Grapevine Reports
Rick and Eileen Miller are living in Wilmington, N. C., now, about 50 miles from Camp Lejeune where Rick's stationed. He and his neighbor, his wife's twin's husband (confused?), take about 50 minutes to buzz over every morning at 5:30. At least golf facilities are good and the beach is handy.
As for his duty, our Fearless Fosdick is currently in the 2nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Au- Weapons Battalion. So of course they made him battalion baseball coach. ("With my Jeremiah background and several minor league ball players, it should be no strain.") Unfortunately Rick also has to find time to be Education Officer, Battalion Police Officer, and attend mess officer's school. Well, get 'em swinging for the fences and hope for a slowball pitcher, dolink.
Herb Ray, well tanned, reports that he saw Hal Fitkin soaking up the solar vitamins in Florida over spring recess.
Voluminous reports have sifted northward from Dick Sullivan in the Concrete Jungle:
"Last November George Partlow was married to Kathleen Tuck of Louisville (the Saturday before Thanksgiving). She is an alumna of that institution 35 miles south of Hanover . . . Colby Junior, '50. Dick Mullins and I were ushers. Dick's working for Proctor and Gamble in Louisville. George and Kathleen are now living in Jackson Heights. He's with W. R. Grace & Co.
"Funkhouser, Bob that is, just joined the ranks of the working class. He is with McCann-Erickson Inc., advertising agency in New York. Mai Dekker works there too. Dick Wallace is one of my roommates here. He's working for W. R. Grace too. MattCooney was teaching history in Gloucester, Mass., High School the last I heard. Glad to see he finally realized his arguments about the merits of an English major were nowhere.
"Kings land 'Beau' Oakes is now in Paris. . . . John Wulp is at the Yale Graduate School taking stage designing . . . Stan Schneider is still working for his Ph.D. at the U. of Penn . . . Bob Kelley dropped over for a few quick ones some time ago. He's working for his father in a hardware distributing company. Travels all over Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware. . . . The latest on Jim McCrum is that he's working for TWA in New York, left in April for a vacation in California climes.
"Me? I started working for the Grace Line in June but got transfered to Griswold and Company, an insurance brokerage outfit of Grace. Present address: Apt. 4-G, 26 E 10th, NYC."
Little Green Derby
As long as the news is kinda short thismonth, you might like to know that GlennFitkin and his Assistant Class Agents are reallygetting out the dollars for the Alumni Fund, but as we write this their job is just starting. They'll be reminding you of your responsibility, so that's unnecessary here. However,The Little Green Derby places us third amongthe last five classes out of school, and we oughtto be first. Next month you can read the results, and it will be a pretty feather in our capif we cop the prize as the class that got therefusstest with the mostest.
Have a nice summer, and we'll be seeing you in October.
